Abstract

We consider the photon emission statistical properties of a single molecule under pump-probe field driving, using the generating function method. The first- and second-order moments of statistical quantities are presented. Derived from the first-order moment, the line shapes are in good agreement with the experimental results. Derived from the second-order moment, Mandel's Q parameters show an obvious quantum effect of photon statistical distribution, i.e., the anti-bunching effect.

Photon Statistical Properties Emitted from Single Molecule Derived from Generating Function Method

In this paper, we summarize the photon emission statistical properties of single molecule system, using the recently developed generating function method. Through the introduce of one or double “auxiliary” variables, we can investigate the first moment and second moment of photon emission statistics driven by different external fields, such as the line shapes and Mandel's Q parameters, the photon emission probabilities, the probability distribution of time between successive emission, the waiting time and the waiting time distribution, the cross correlation, the joint probabilities, etc. Among, the first moment of photon statistics and the experimental results of optical amplification are in good agreement.

Statistical properties of single molecule photon emission under pump-probe fields

Han Bai

The statistical properties of fluorescence photon emission of single molecule modeled by two-level system (TLS) under pump-probe fields were investigated by employing the generating function method developed recently. We study the impact of pump-probe fields on some single molecule statistical properties, such as, the line shapes, Mandel Q parameters and probalities of photon emission. Our theoretical result about average emission photon numbers and experimental result are in good agreement.

We consider the photon statistical properties emitted from a two-level quantum system under pump–probe driving. The line shapes and Mandel's Q parameters are studied for a single quantum system based on the generating function method developed recently. The control of photon emission from a single quantum system driven simultaneously by a driven field and a tunable probe field is investigated. Our theoretical results and the experimental results are in good agreement.

Single molecule photon emission statistics of driven three-level systems

Yonggang Peng, Yujun Zheng, Frank L. H. Brown

We study the statistics of photon emission from three-level single molecule systems. The generating function method [Y. Zheng and F. L. H. Brown, Phys. Rev. Lett. 90, 238305 (2003)] is used to calculate steady state absorption line shapes and Mandel's Q parameter as a function of excitation frequency, as well as the time dependence associated with approach to the steady state. The line shape calculations confirm known results derived via other methods, while the Q parameter results display complex frequency dependences not amenable to simple interpretation. This study confirms the applicability of the generating function formalism to multilevel quantum systems, including the proper modeling of quantum coherence effects.

Statistical analysis of photons from a single terrylene molecule for the study of the energy level scheme

Kwang-Geol Lee

Single photons from single emitters are good candidates for a high-quality single-photon source which is essential in current quantum optical experiments and applications. Because the statistics of emitted photons is mainly determined by the energy level structure of the system, knowing the correct level scheme and the transition rates between levels is of primary importance. In this work, the energy level scheme and the photon-emission statistics of a single terrylene molecule are studied by measuring the second-order correlation function and the time trace of the emitted photons. The details in the measurement and analysis are discussed, and a more advanced energy-level structure of the terrylene molecule is suggested.
