Abstract

Conditions are found under which a simple two-level quantum system possessing dipole moment operator with permanent non-equal diagonal matrix elements and driven by external semiclassical monochromatic high-frequency EM (laser) field can radiate continuously at much lower frequency. Possible ways to experimental observation and practical implementation of the predicted effect for a wide range of applications are discussed.

Abstract It is shown that a two-level quantum system with broken inversion symmetry possessing dipole moment operator with permanent non-equal diagonal matrix elements, driven by external semiclassical monochromatic high-frequency electromagnetic (laser) field and damped by broadband squeezed vacuum reservoir can amplify or absorb weak probe electromagnetic radiation field of much lower frequency depending on the reference phase of the squeezed field. Varying the degree of squeezing allows to alter the magnitude of the absorption or amplification rate.

Fluorescence by a polar quantum system in a polychromatic field

Jr. Bogolyubov, Andrey Vladimirovich Soldatov

Spectral properties of fluorescent radiation from a two-level quantum system with broken inversion spatial symmetry, which can be described by a model of an one-electron two-level atom whose electric dipole moment operator has permanent unequal diagonal matrix elements, were studied. The case of the excitation of this system by a polychromatic laser field, comprised of $N-1$ high-frequency components with the frequencies close to or being in resonance with the atomic transition frequency, and a low-frequency component whose frequency coincides with the Rabi frequency of the high-frequency components, was considered. Special attention was given to the resonant bichromatic and nearly resonant trichromatic excitation. In the former case it was shown that by changing the intensity of the low-frequency component, one can efficiently alter spectral properties of the fluorescent radiation of the system in the high-frequency range, while in the latter case it was found that the fluorescent behavior of the system in question reveals a kind of an optoelectronic transistor effect. Options for the experimental detection and practical usage of the effects under study were discussed.

Fluorescence by incoherently pumped polar quantum dot placed in a low-frequency monochromatic field

Andrey Vladimirovich Soldatov

Abstract We studied spectral properties of high-frequency fluorescent radiation from a two-level quantum system with broken inversion spatial symmetry, which can be implemented as a model of a one-electron two-level asymmetric polar semiconductor quantum dot whose electric dipole moment operator has permanent unequal diagonal matrix elements. The case of the excitation of this system by incoherent pumping of some sort supplemented with an additional driving monochromatic field, which frequency is much lower than the optical transition frequency of the quantum dot, was considered. An analytical expression for the fluorescence spectrum as a function of the amplitude and frequency of the monochromatic driving field, as well as of the pumping intensity, was derived. We also discussed feasible practical applications of the effects under study in the field of quantum optics and optoelectronics for the generation of high-frequency radiation, possessing stationary equidistant spectrum, and for the control of the radiative properties of such nanodevices as spasers (dipole nanolasers).

Microwave multiphoton conversion via coherently driven permanent dipole systems

Alexandra Mîrzac, Sergiu Carlig, Mihai Macovei

We investigate the multiphoton quantum dynamics of a leaking single-mode quantized cavity field coupled with a resonantly driven two-level system possessing permanent dipoles. The frequencies of the interacting subsystems being considered are very different, e.g., the microwave range for the cavity and the optical domain for the frequency of the two-level emitter, respectively. In this way, the emitter couples to the resonator mode only via its diagonal dipole moments. Furthermore, the generalized Rabi frequency resulting from the external coherent driving of the two-level subsystem is also assumed to be different from the resonator's frequency or its multiples. As a consequence, this highly dispersive interaction regime is responsible for the cavity multiphoton quantum dynamics and photon conversion from the optical to microwave range, respectively.

Coherent radiation by two-level quantum systems with permanent dipole moments under multiphoton resonant laser excitation

H. K. Avetissian, B. R. Avchyan, G. F. Mkrtchian

The theory of coherent radiation emission in two-level quantum systems with permanent dipole moments at the multiphoton resonant excitation by moderately strong laser fields is presented. A simple analytic formula for the expectation value of a dipole moment operator is obtained. The spectrum corresponding to harmonic generation and low-frequency radiation on the generalized Rabi frequency is investigated both analytically and numerically. The effect of dynamic Stark shift on a dipole spectrum under direct multiphoton resonant excitation is considered.
