Abstract

Summary In this paper, the secrecy performance and power allocation of the signal‐to‐noise ratio‐based hybrid decode–amplify–forward (HDAF) relaying protocol in wireless cooperative network are investigated to get security at physical layer. The performance metrics considered are secrecy rate and intercept probability. The Ergodic secrecy rate is approximated theoretically. The effect of relay and eavesdropper locations on the secrecy performance of the system is analyzed. It is found that maximum secrecy rate is obtained for the relay close‐to‐destination case and minimum for the relay close‐to‐eavesdropper case. Jamming schemes are superior in secrecy rate performance than without jamming schemes. To enhance the secrecy rate further with the optimized relay and jammer powers, invasive weed optimization (IWO) algorithm‐based power allocation is proposed. Here, maximizing the secrecy rate is defined as the cost function for the proposed IWO algorithm‐based power allocation. Comparative study is done over the conventional equal and proposed power allocation schemes for validation. The proposed power allocation scheme proved to be superior. Performance analysis of hybrid decode-amplify-forward (HDAF) relaying for improving security in cooperative wireless network

T S Divya, Kiran Kumar Gurrala, Susmita Das

In this paper, SNR based hybrid decode-amplify-forward (HDAF) is introduced for improving the physical layer security of wireless cooperative network and its performance is analyzed in flat Rayleigh fading channel environment with three relay and jammer selection schemes namely conventional selection (without jammer), optimal selection (with jammer) and control jamming. We consider a linear cooperative wireless network consisting of one source, one destination with multiple relays in presence of single eavesdropper. Monte Carlo simulations are carried out and the obtained results are compared for different relay, jammer and eavesdropper locations. A study of comparison is made in terms of secrecy capacity for the proposed hybrid decode-amplify-forward (HDAF) relaying with the AF and DF relaying schemes. Finally from the simulated comparison study, it is observed that HDAF scheme outperforms AF and DF schemes and we can also observe control jamming selection achieves more secrecy rate compared to without jamming and with optimal jamming.

Nelder‐Mead–based power optimization for secrecy enhancement in amplify‐and‐forward cooperative relay networks

P M Shemi, M G Jibukumar, Munsif Ali

Summary Cooperative communication based on relaying nodes has been considered as a promising technique to increase the physical layer security (PLS) performance in wireless communications. In this paper, an optimal power allocation (OPA) scheme based on Nelder‐Mead (NM) algorithm is proposed for improving the secrecy rate of amplify‐and‐forward (AF) cooperative relay networks employing cooperative jamming (CJ) scheme. The proposed hybrid jamming scheme allows the source and selected relay to transmit the jamming signal along with the information to confound the eavesdropper. The path selection probability of ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm is used for selecting the relay for transmission. The performance based on secrecy rate is evaluated for “n” trusted relays distributed dispersedly between the source and destination. Gradient‐based optimization and three‐dimensional exhaustive search methods are used as benchmark schemes for comparison of the proposed power optimization algorithm. The secrecy performance is also compared with conventional AF scheme and CJ scheme without power optimization (EPA). The impact of single and multiple relays on secrecy performance is also evaluated. Numerical results reveal that, compared with the gradient method and exhaustive search algorithm, the proposed power allocation strategy achieves optimal performance. Also, the derived OPA results show a significantly higher secrecy rate than the EPA strategy for both CJ and AF schemes.

Power allocation‐Assisted secrecy analysis for NOMA enabled cooperative network under multiple eavesdroppers

V. Narasimha Nayak, Kiran Kumar Gurrala

In this work, the secrecy of a typical wireless cooperative dual-hop non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA)-enabled decode-and-forward (DF) relay network is investigated with the impact of collaborative and non-collaborative eavesdropping. The system model consists of a source that broadcasts the multiplexed signal to two NOMA users via a DF relay, and information security against the eavesdropper nodes is provided by a helpful jammer. The performance metric is secrecy rate and ergodic secrecy capacity is approximated analytically. In addition, a differential evolution algorithm-based power allocation scheme is proposed to find the optimal power allocation factors for relay, jammer, and NOMA users by employing different jamming schemes. Furthermore, the secrecy rate analysis is validated at the NOMA users by adopting different jamming schemes such as without jamming (WJ) or conventional relaying, jamming (J), and with control jamming (CJ). Simulation results demonstrate the superiority of CJ over the J and WJ schemes. Finally, the proposed power allocation outperforms the fixed power allocation under all conditions considered in this work.

Relaying techniques for enhancing the physical layer secrecy in cooperative networks with multiple eavesdroppers

ABSTRACT Physical layer security has recently attracted considerable attention in the context of information‐theoretic point of view. In this paper, we investigate relay selection schemes for security‐constrained half‐duplex cooperative wireless networks with multiple eavesdroppers, which have the ability to cooperate to overhear the source transmission. The proposed techniques select a trusted decode‐and‐forward relay to assist the source transmission and maximize the achievable secure rate for different eavesdropper policies (cooperation or not); for the two cases, we assume that the channel is always available. In addition, a jamming method that selects two relay nodes to create an intentional interference at both phases of the decode‐and‐forward protocol to confound the eavesdropper nodes is also considered. Both the source–destination and source–eavesdroppers links are taken into account in the proposed analysis. Secrecy rate and secrecy outage probability are the two performance metrics that are used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed schemes while asymptotic approximations of the secrecy outage probability are also derived. Simulation and analytical results demonstrate the performance improvement of the proposed schemes. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Optimal power allocation‐based novel control jamming scheme for nonorthogonal multiple access enabled decode‐and‐forward relay network

V. Narasimha Nayak, Kiran Kumar Gurrala

Summary In this work, a new control jamming (CJ) scheme has been proposed for a cooperative nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) network with optimal power allocation factors by employing decode‐and‐forward (DF) relay. Maximization of secrecy rate at both NOMA users with the aid of CJ under total transmit power constraint is considered as an optimization problem. In this regard, invasive weed optimization (IWO) algorithm‐based approach is proposed to facilitate optimal power allocation for the considered network. In this analysis, performance metric secrecy rate is analyzed with CJ at both NOMA users by varying the location of eavesdropper with respect to the relay and jammer. In addition, the performance of fixed power allocation (FPA) and proposed power allocation (PPA) schemes is investigated with CJ and compared with jamming (J) and without jamming (WJ) conditions. Simulation result analysis specifies that secrecy performance is enhanced remarkably by CJ and PPA outperforms the FPA.

Maximized secrecy rate based power allocation for wireless cooperative network with control jamming

Kiran Kumar Gurrala, Susmita Das

In this paper, we propose efficient power allocation techniques using both convex optimization (using Lagrange multiplier method) and a soft evolutionary approach (using Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm) to optimize both the relay and jammer powers in addition to an increase in the system performance in terms of secrecy rate. Here, we consider a cooperative wireless network with control jamming comprising of a source-destination pair with a set of relay nodes in the presence of single and multiple eavesdroppers. Optimal relay node is selected based on the SNR received at each relay, which transmits the data to the destination using decode and forward strategy. Amongst the remaining nodes, selection of jammer is done based on the SNR value of the relay to eavesdropper link. The proposed power allocation schemes are compared with equal power allocation policy for using the Monte-Carlo simulation study and these schemes are found to be superior in terms of average secrecy rate.
