Degenerate Four Wave Mixing of Short and Ultrashort Light Pulses

Ian C. McMichael

This dissertation presents experimental and theoretical studies of transient degenerate four wave mixing (DFWM) in organic dyes. Chapter 1 is an introduction to DFWM. Chapter 2 describes DFWM experiments that were performed in the gain medium of a dye laser. Chapter 3 presents the theory of DFWM of short pulses in three level saturable media. Chapter 4 presents DFWM experiments of femtosecond pulses in the saturable absorber of a passively modelocked ring dye laser. Chapter 5 presents the theory of DFWM of ultrashort pulses in resonant media.

Quantum Mechanics of Atmospheric Turbulence

Maged Marghany

This chapter demonstrates speculation about the quantum turbulence of the atmosphere. Therefore, the chapter introduces the initial concept of the quantum mechanics of the air composition ending by quantizing the gravity wave based on the wave-particle duality. The new theory of geostrophic wind flows is introduced based on the stress-energy tensor. In this consequence, the novel theory is named by Marghany quantum energy wind-driven theory. The quantized stress-energy tensor due to fluctuation of air pressure dynamics causes such discrete wind flows. This discrete wind flow is titled” quantized Marghany quasi-geostrophic turbulence speculation”. In this chapter, a new concept is delivered as the quasi-geostrophic are not only affected by the Coriolis force but also by torque force as demonstrated in the general relativity theory of Einstein. Finally, this chapter discussed quantum turbulence as a study case of the quantum vortex, which would be decomposed into wave turbulence such as Kelvin wave and gravity wave. In this manner, it addressed gravity waves from the view of wave-particle duality. The next chapter will introduce the novelty of quantum remote sensing entanglement with quantum turbulence.
