Correlation-enabled energy exchange in quantum systems without external driving

Tuomas Pyhäranta, S. Alipour, A. T. Rezakhani +1 more

We study the role of correlation in mechanisms of energy exchange between an interacting bipartite quantum system and its environment by decomposing the energy of the system to local and correlation-related contributions. When the system Hamiltonian is time independent, no external work is performed. In this case, energy exchange between the system and its environment occurs only due to the change in the state of the system. We investigate the possibility of a special case where the energy exchange with the environment occurs exclusively due to changes in the correlation between the constituent parts of the bipartite system, while their local energies remain constant. We find sufficient conditions for preserving local energies. It is proven that under these conditions and within the Gorini-Kossakowski-Lindblad-Sudarshan dynamics this scenario is not possible for all initial states of the bipartite system. Nevertheless, since the sufficient conditions can be too strong, it is still possible to find special cases for which the local energies remain unchanged during the associated evolution and the whole energy exchange is only due to the change in the correlation energy. We illustrate our results with an example.

Electron-exchange and quantum screening effects on the collisional entanglement fidelity in degenerate quantum plasmas

Woo-Pyo Hong, Young‐Dae Jung

The influence of electron-exchange and quantum screening on the collisional entanglement fidelity for the elastic electron–ion collision is investigated in degenerate quantum plasmas. The effective Shukla–Eliasson potential and the partial wave method are used to obtain the collisional entanglement fidelity in quantum plasmas as a function of the electron-exchange parameter, Fermi energy, plasmon energy and collision energy. The results show that the quantum screening effect enhances the entanglement fidelity in quantum plasmas. However, it is found that the electron-exchange effect strongly suppresses the collisional entanglement fidelity. Hence, we have found that the influence of the electron-exchange reduces the transmission of quantum information in quantum plasmas. In addition, it is found that, although the entanglement fidelity decreases with an increase of the Fermi energy, it increases with increasing plasmon energy in degenerate quantum plasmas.

Experimental test of exchange fluctuation relations in an open quantum system

S. Hernández-Gómez, S. Gherardini, F. Poggiali +4 more

The authors analyze the energy transfer in a quantum system by experimentally accessing the energy exchange statistics of a quantum system subjected to stochastic projective measurements. Employing a nitrogen-vacancy spin in diamond interacting with a tunable dissipation channel, they demonstrate the validity of the energy exchange fluctuation relation for an open system.
