Abstract

From the master equation of the field density for the two-photon process, with the help of the generation function method, the expressions of the squeezing of the square of the field amplitude generated in two-photon absorption process are derived. The variations of the square of the field amplitude with the dimensionless time τ, the phase θ and the average number of photons of the incident field are discussed. It is shown that the two-photon absorption process is an effective way generating the squeezing effect of the square amplitude of the field. Finally, the independence of the amplitude-squared squeezing effect is demonstrated.

AMPLITUDE N-POWER SQUEEZING IN A TWO-PHOTON ABSORPTION MEDIUM

JIANG HAI-HE, Lin-sheng He, 中国科学院安徽光学精密机械研究所,合肥230031

From the equation for the matrix elements of the field density in the two-photon process, with the aid of the generation function method, the exact analytical expressions of the amplitude N-power squeezing generating in two-photon absorption process are derived. The variation of the amplitude N-power squeezing with the diemensionless time τ, power exponent N, the phase θ and the average number of photons of the incident field are discussed. It have been shown that the amplitude N-power squeezing for different power exponents N is independent of each other, the two-photon absorption process is one of effective ways to generate the amplitude N-power squeezing.

EVOLUTION OF SQUEEZED STATE FIELD IN A TWO-PHOTON ABSORPTION MEDIUM

Lin-sheng He, Haihe Jiang, Shangqing Liu +2 more

The exact analytic expressions for the photon statistics distribution, the squeezing degree S and the second order degree of coherence g(2) of light field are obtained by using the master equation for the density operator of light field and applying the generation-function method. The evolution of these quantities with the scale-time τ are discussed. It is shown that the squeezing degree S, which is gradually reduced in two-photon absorption process, may still exhibit the squeezing feature. Moreover, the process is favorable to the existence and the enhancement of photon antibunching effect and photon sub-poissonian statistics feature, but the oscillatory characteristics of photon statistics distribution disappear rapidly after having been preserved in a short time.

SQUEEZING AND PHOTON STATISTICS IN FIVE-WAVE MIXING PROCESS

Sunil Rani, Jawahar Lal, Nafa Singh

We investigate theoretically the generation of squeezed states in spontaneous and stimulated five-wave mixing process. It has been found that squeezing occurs in field amplitude, amplitude-squared, amplitude-cubed and fourth-order amplitude states of the fundamental mode in the process. It is found to be dependent on coupling parameter g and phase values of the field amplitude of the fundamental mode. The process involves the absorption of two pump photons each having frequency ω1, emission of two probe photons of same frequency ω2 and a signal photon of frequency ω3. It is shown that squeezing is greater in a stimulated interaction than the corresponding squeezing in the spontaneous process. It is found that the degree of squeezing depends on the photon number in the first and higher orders. We study the statistical behaviour of quantum field in the fundamental mode. It has been found that the field shows sub-Poissonian behavior in this mode.

THE AMPLITUDE SQUEEZING EFFECTS OF THE ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD IN SIX-WAVE INTERACTION MODEL

Dilip Kumar Giri, Partha Sarathi Gupta

The amplitude squeezing properties of the electromagnetic field is investigated in the fundamental, Stokes (probe) and signal mode in six-wave mixing process under short-time approximation based on a fully quantum mechanical approach. The interaction is looked upon as a process involving absorption of two pump photons and emission of three probe photons and one signal photon at different frequencies. The coupled Heisenberg quantum mechanical equations of motion involving real and imaginary parts of the quadrature operators are established and solved under short-time scale. The occurrence of amplitude squeezing effects in both the quadrature of the radiation field in the fundamental mode as well as in the Stokes (probe) mode is investigated using the required conditions of squeezing in each of the cases. It is also shown that the squeezing in the signal mode is found to be dependent on amplitude-squared squeezing of the initial pump field. This gives a method of converting higher-order (amplitude-squared) squeezing into normal squeezing.

Amplitude-squared squeezed states

Mark S. Hillery

The real and imaginary parts of the square of the field amplitude obey an uncertainty relation. If the uncertainty in either of these variables is less than it would be in a minimum uncertainty state with equal uncertainties in both variables, the state is amplitude-squared squeezed. This is a nonclassical effect which can be produced by second harmonic generation, two-photon absorption, and degenerate parametric amplification, as well as by higher-order processes. Amplitude-squared squeezing can be converted into normal squeezing by interactions in which the square of the amplitude of one field is coupled to the amplitude of another. Second harmonic generation and some forms of four-wave mixing provide examples of such processes.
