Self-pumped and double phase conjugation in GaAs with applied dc electric field

Abstract

Self-pumped and double phase conjugation are first demonstrated in undoped GaAs with applied dc electric field at 1.06 micron wavelength. Phase-conjugate reflectivities of up to 3 percent and 0.5 percent, respectively, are obtained and other dependences are reported. Reported values of the self-pumped phase-conjugate reflectivity are compared with those of InP.

Self-pumped phase conjugation in InP:Fe

Richard B. Bylsma, Alexander M. Glass, DAVID H. L. OLSON +1 more

We report here for the first time the demonstration of self-pumped phase conjugation in photorefractive semiconductors using 1.32 μm light. Using an ac field technique to enhance the gain coefficient in InP:Fe and a single input pump beam, phase conjugate reflectivities of 11% were measured using an input beam intensity of less than 1 mW/mm2. These results open up many possibilities for using photorefractive semiconductors in applications with low-power infrared diode lasers.

Resonant self-pumped phase conjugation in cesium vapor at 0.85 μm

Celestino J. Gaeta, Juan Francisco Lam

We report the first observation of resonant self-pumped phase conjugation at diode laser wavelengths. A phase conjugate reflectivity of 0.01%, and a cw threshold intensity of 75 W/cm2 were measured.

Double-pumped phase conjugation in inverted Nd:YAG

Darren Udaiyan, R.P.M. Green, D. H. Kim +1 more

An experimental study of double-pumped phase conjugation (DPPC) in a gain medium (Nd:YAG) is presented. The input–output energy and phase conjugate reflectivity of the system was experimentally characterized, with a maximum reflectivity of R∼160 observed. A self-starting DPPC laser was also produced by use of a feedback mirror, and spatial and temporal outputs are presented. The DPPC laser produced a TEM00 spatial mode output of 113 mJ in a 20-ns single-longitudinal mode pulse at a repetition rate of 10 Hz.

Photorefractive gain in GaAs under a dc electric field

Duncan T. H. Liu, Li‐Jen Cheng, Mann-Fu Rau +1 more

We report the first observation of a photorefractive gain coefficient as high as 2.6 cm−1 in the undoped liquid-encapsulated Czochralski-grown GaAs crystals at 1.06 μm under a dc electric field of 13 kV/cm without using the moving grating technique. The absorption coefficient of the crystals used is 1.3 cm−1, showing that a net gain has been achieved. This measured gain coefficient is close to the predicted theoretical value.

Efficient self-pumped phase conjugation with a loop geometry in a Rhodamine-6G solid dye laser amplifier

Hirofumi Watanabe, Takashige Omatsu, Mitsuhiro Tateda

We present what to our knowledge is the first demonstration of self-pumped phase conjugation in a laser-pumped solid-state Rhodamine-6G dye saturable amplifier. Phase-conjugate energy reflectivity of as much as 2100% at 557 nm has been obtained.
