Abstract

We report on experimental observation of sub-Doppler transparencies in Rb filled HC-PCF. A theoretical analysis shows that they result from the optical pumping of wall trapped atoms into off-resonant spin state.

Spin relaxation in Rb-He and Rb-Ne via modification of the Rb hyperfine interaction in Van der Waals molecules

F. A. Franz, C. H. Volk

Anomalous modes of electronic-spin relaxation of optically pumped Rb atoms observed in He and Ne buffer gases may result from the modification of the Rb hyperfine interaction, induced by the formation of Rb-He and Rb-Ne Van der Waals molecules. Isolation of anomalous effects also resolves disagreements in cross sections previously reported for the spin relaxation of Cs in Ne.

Ground-state population relaxation dynamics of polarized Rb atoms in Kagome HC-PCF

Ximeng Zheng, Jenny Jouin, Ekaterina Ilinova +4 more

We polarized ground-state population thermal-Rb in inner-wall core-coated and uncoated Kagome HC-PCFs and measured its relaxation-time rate and its dependence with the pumping-laser intensity and detuning. Enhancement in relaxation-time in coated fibers is observed.

Ultra-long lived atomic polarization of Rb confined in hypocycloidal Kagome HC-PCF

Ekaterina Ilinova, Thomas D. Bradley, M. Alharbi +4 more

We measure atomic polarization relaxation-time of Rb-loaded in different hypocycloidal-core Kagome HC-PCFs. The measured relaxation-time is two-orders of magnitude larger than the transit-time limit. We attribute this to slow-atom stronger contribution to the polarization build-up.

Width of the electromagnetically induced transparency resonance in atomic vapor

C. Y. Ye, Alexander S. Zibrov

The width of the electromagnetically induced transparency resonance is studied in rubidium vapor. Nonlinear dependence of the width on drive intensity that is caused by Doppler broadening and optical pumping is found. Density-matrix analysis supports the observed dependence. The discrepancies between experimental data and theoretical prediction are discussed.

Sub-Doppler linewidth with electromagnetically induced transparency in rubidium atoms

Yifu Zhu, T. N. Wasserlauf

We report the experimental observation of steady-state electromagnetically induced transparency and sub-Doppler linewidth in a Doppler-broadened \ensuremath{\Lambda}-type Rb atomic system formed on the $^{87}\mathrm{Rb}$ ${\mathit{D}}_{2}$ transitions. The \ensuremath{\Lambda} system is coupled on one transition by a strong laser and probed on the other transition by a weak laser. The observed sub-Doppler linewidth decreases with the increasing detuning of the strong-coupling laser from the atomic transition frequency and is in good agreement with the theoretical calculations of G. Vemuri, G. S. Agarwal, and B. D. N. Rao [Phys. Rev. A 53, 2842 (1996)]. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.

Sub-Doppler resonances in the backscattered light from random porous media infused with Rb vapor

S. Villalba, Athanasios Laliotis, L. Lenci +3 more

We report on the observation of sub-Doppler resonances on the backscattered light from a random porous glass medium with rubidium vapor filling its interstices. The sub-Doppler spectral lines are the consequence of saturated absorption where the incident laser beam saturates the atomic medium and the backscattered light probes it. Some specificities of the observed spectra reflect the transient atomic evolution under confinement inside the pores. Simplicity, robustness, and potential miniaturization are appealing features of this system as a spectroscopic reference.
