Magnus expansion paradoxes in the study of equilibrium magnetization and entanglement in multi-pulse spin locking

Abstract

Divergence of the Magnus expansion leads to paradoxes in the spin dynamics of solid-state NMR and in quantum informatics. This review presents results on quasi-equilibrium magnetization in a system of dipole-dipole (DD) coupled spins at times in multiple-pulse spin locking ( is the transverse spin relaxation time and is the rotating-frame spin-lattice relaxation time). It is shown how contradictions between the results obtained with the Magnus expansion and experimental data can be removed. Systems of two and three DD coupled spins in multi-pulse spin locking are considered, and the entanglement evolution is investigated using both the Magnus expansion and the exact solution. The critical temperature for an entangled state is also found.

Quantum Entanglement in Quasi-Equilibrium States in the Multipulse Spin Locking of the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance

G. A. Bochkin, Sergey G. Vasil’ev, E. I. Kuznetsova +1 more

Quantum entanglement is studied NMR multipulse spin locking, when a system of spins coupled by the dipole–dipole interaction in a strong magnetic field is irradiated by a sequence of resonant high-frequency $$\varphi $$ -pulses with the same time delay $$2\tau $$ between successive pulses. For times $$t \sim {{T}_{2}}$$ ( $${{T}_{2}} \approx \omega _{{{\text{loc}}}}^{{ - 1}}$$ , $${{\omega }_{{{\text{loc}}}}}$$ is determined by the dipole–dipole interaction), quasi-equilibrium with a structure depending on the relation between the pulsed field $${{\omega }_{1}} = \varphi {\text{/}}2\tau $$ and $${{\omega }_{{{\text{loc}}}}}$$ is established in the system. For $${{\omega }_{1}} \lessapprox {{\omega }_{{{\text{loc}}}}}$$ , a one-temperature quasi-equilibrium state arises, while a quasi-equilibrium with the dipole and Zeeman temperatures appears for $${{\omega }_{1}} \gg {{\omega }_{{{\text{loc}}}}}$$ . The temperature dependence of entanglement is investigated for $${{\omega }_{1}} \lessapprox {{\omega }_{{{\text{loc}}}}}$$ . For $${{\omega }_{1}} \gg {{\omega }_{{{\text{loc}}}}}$$ , the further evolution of the system is determined by the Provotorov equations and leads to the equalization of the dipole and Zeeman temperatures. It is shown that the entanglement is absent in this case.

Quantum Entanglement in Two-Spin Systems in Multiple Pulse NMR Spin Locking with Dephasing Relaxation

G. A. Bochkin, Alexander Ivanovich Zenchuk, E. I. Kuznetsova +2 more

Abstract Quantum entanglement in two-spin systems in multiple pulse NMR spin locking with dephasing relaxation is studied on the basis of the Lindblad equation. An exact solution for the density matrix of the system for any initial temperature is found. The dependence of the concurrence (which determines quantum entanglement) on the dephasing relaxation rate and the parameters of the multiple pulse sequence is investigated. For different rates of dephasing relaxation, the critical temperature at which entanglement arises is found.

Multiple quantum spin dynamics of entanglement

Serge I. Doronin

The dynamics of entanglement is investigated on the basis of exactly solvable models of multiple quantum (MQ) NMR spin dynamics. It is shown that the time evolution of MQ coherences of systems of coupled nuclear spins in solids is directly connected with dynamics of the quantum entanglement. We studied analytically the dynamics of entangled states for two- and three-spin systems coupled by the dipole-dipole interaction. In this case the dynamics of the quantum entanglement is uniquely determined by the time evolution of MQ coherences of the second order. The real part of the density matrix describing MQ dynamics in solids is responsible for MQ coherences of the zeroth order while its imaginary part is responsible for the second order. Thus, one can conclude that the dynamics of the entanglement is connected with transitions from the real part of the density matrix to the imaginary one, and vice versa. A pure state which generalizes the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) and W states is found. Different measures of the entanglement of this state are analyzed for tripartite systems.

Dynamics of entangled states of nuclear spins in solids

Serge I. Doronin

We investigated dynamics of entangled states on the basis of multiple-quantum (MQ) NMR methods. A time evolution of MQ coherences of nuclear spins coupled by the dipole-dipole interactions (DDI) in solids is simply connected with dynamics of quantum entangled states. We studied analytically dynamics of the entangled states for two- and three-spin systems. In this case dynamics of the quantum entanglement is uniquely determined by the time evolution of MQ coherences of the second order. The real part of the density matrix describing MQ dynamics in solids is responsible for MQ coherences of the zeroth order while its imaginary part is responsible for the second order. Thus, one can conclude that dynamics of the entanglement is connected with transitions from the real part of the density matrix to the imaginary one and vice versa.

Multiple quantum NMR dynamics in dipolar ordered spin systems

Serge I. Doronin, Edward B. Fel’dman, E. I. Kuznetsova +2 more

We investigate analytically and numerically the multiple-quantum (MQ) NMR dynamics in systems of nuclear spins $1∕2$ coupled by the dipole-dipole interactions in the case of the dipolar ordered initial state. We suggest two different methods of MQ NMR. One of them is based on the measurement of the dipolar temperature in the quasiequilibrium state which is established after the time of order ${\ensuremath{\omega}}_{\mathit{loc}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ (${\ensuremath{\omega}}_{\mathit{loc}}$ is the dipolar local field) after the MQ NMR experiment. The other method uses an additional resonance ${(\ensuremath{\pi}∕4)}_{y}$ pulse after the preparation period of the standard MQ NMR experiment in solids. Many-spin clusters and correlations are created faster in such experiments than in the usual MQ NMR experiments and can be used for the investigation of many-spin dynamics of nuclear spins in solids.

Dipolar temperature and multiple-quantum NMR dynamics in dipolar ordered-spin systems

Serge I. Doronin, Edward B. Fel’dman, E. I. Kuznetsova +2 more

We investigate analytically and numerically the multiple-quantum (MQ) NMR dynamics in systems of nuclear spins 1/2 coupled by dipole-dipole interactions in the case of the dipolar-ordered initial state. We suggest a new method of MQ NMR based on the measurement of the dipolar temperature in the quasi-equilibrium state, which establishes after the time of order ω loc −1 (ωloc is the dipolar local field) after the MQ NMR experiment. Manyspin clusters and correlations are created faster in such an experiment than in usual MQ NMR experiments and can be used for the investigation of the many-spin dynamics of nuclear spins in solids.
