Abstract

A new sending after verify scheme, which was employed to solve the polarization fluctuation in quantum channel for QKD implementation based on polarization coding, was proposed in this paper.According this scheme,an optical phase shifter driven by voltage was developed.By altering the input voltage of phase modulator, the optical phase shifter can produce arbitrary polarization states. With the optical phase shifter and a half-wave plate, the polarization states of a QKD system can be resumed to Alice's original state discretionarily at Bob,it confirm the quantum channel is usable for QKD.The feasibility of the kernel part of the sending after verifying scheme in quantum channel for quantum key distribution system was validated in theory and practice.Because of the high modulation speed(GHz) in waveguide phase-modulators,the new scheme can help settling the polarization fluctuation in fiber-based QKD systems.

High-speed polarization coding in a quantum key distribution system

We present a high-speed polarization-coding method, which makes use of phase modulation, for use in a quantum key distribution (QKD) system. This technique has been introduced into a QKD system for the first time. A completely quantum mechanical method is employed to describe quantum information processing here. Experiments on a balanced element for polarization coding by phase modulation are described in detail. The experimental results demonstrate that this technique can encode or decode polarization at high speed (with feasibility in the GHz range) and low voltage (a few volts) successfully.

Method for Polarization Compensation in Quantum Key Distribution

ZHONG Xianfeng,CAO Lei,LIU Weiyue,WANG Chaoze,LI Fengzhi,JIANG Zhidi,PENG Chengzhi

Quantum key distribution uses polarization coding. When using conventional single-mode fiber as the channel for quantum state transfer, optical fiber has a slight birefringence and cannot maintain the quantum state of polarization. In this case, this paper proposes a method to make polarization compensation for quantum state.Using the polarization compensation method of successive approximation,it is a promising scheme to complete the polarization compensation by rotating the combination of 2 quarter-wave plate and 1 half-wave plate successively.By measuring the values of polarization contrast ratio,it rotates the three wave plates according to the results of the measurement, until the polarization performance of the system finally meets the requirements.Experimental results show that compared with the polarization compensation method of traversal mode, the method of successive approximation can realize polarization compensation more quickly.

Improved Two-Way Phase Coding

Salim Ali Al-Kathiri

Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) system is capable of generating secrete keys between two parties and enables them to sense the presence of any third party providing unconditionally secure communications. During the development process of constructing the enhanced fully polarized QKD configuration, few problems were confronted and solved. The developed optical structure proved to have auto-compensation in terms of photons polarization because of utilization of polarization maintaining fiber and Faraday mirror. It was also observed that phase coding scheme is implementable for QKD over 100 km long of optical fiber with high visibility, trusted system fidelity and low QBER.

The drive circuit design of phase modulator module in QKD system

Yonggang Wang

Phase modulator is an indispensable optical modulator in quantum key distribution as it can affect the quantum bit error rate.A control circuit for driving phase modulator is presented using high-speed and high frequency analog switch.Simulation results show that the output voltage pulse width can be less than 10ns,which can be well applied to quantum key distribution (QKD) system. The feasibility and reliability of the scheme are verified through theoretical analysis and experiment results.

Differential phase-shift quantum key distribution

Kyo Inoue, Edo Waks A, Y. Yamamoto

This paper presents novel quantum key distribution (QKD) schemes that use differential phases of sequential pulses as an information carrier. Alice sends a photon in a linear superposition state of three temporal slots, in which each amplitude is phase-modulated by {0,π}. Bob measures the phase difference of an asymmetric interferometer, and tells Alice time-instance at which the photon was counted. From this time information and her modulation data, Alice knows which detector counted the photon in Bob s site. Then, the two parties create a secret key. The scheme is suitable for fiber transmission systems and offers key creation efficiency higher than conventional phase-encoding QKD. The above scheme utilizes fully non-orthogonal four states. Differential phase shift QKD utilizing two non-orthogonal states is also presented. Alice sends a coherent pulse train with less than one photon per pulse, which is phase modulated by {0,π} for each pulse, and Bob measures the pulse train by a one-bit delay circuit. The system has a simple configuration such that Alice has no interferometer and sends no intense reference pulse, unlike to conventional QKD scheme using two non-orthogonal states, and also has an advantage of high key creation efficiency.

A new method to acquire the half-wave voltage by the quantum bit error rate in the deterministic quantum key distribution system

Zhengjun Wei, Wan Wei, Jindong Wang +2 more

The value of the half-wave voltage of the phase modulator must be measured with high accuracy to reduce the quantum bit error rate (QBER) in a quantum key distribution system based the phase-coding scheme. A new method to measure the half-wave voltage of the phase modulator in an accuracy of 2 mV by adjusting the quantum bit error rate (QBER) of the deterministic quantum key distribution is proposed experimentally to increase the accuracy of the half-wave voltage and reduce the error rate of the quantum key distribution system. The experimental results show that this method can be used to acquire efficiently the half-wave voltage of the phase modulator in a high accuracy which can make the error rate from adding the inaccurate voltage to the phase modulator decrease to the greatest extent.
