Abstract

By means of time-evolution operator, we theoretically analyze the processes of the production and the stimulated amplification of the entangled-photon in the two-pass system by parametric down conversion. We give out theoretical result concerning the interference enhanced polarization entanglement in agreement with related experiment.

Stimulated Emission as a Result of Multiphoton Interference

Fang‐Wen Sun, Bi‐Heng Liu, Yan-Xiao Gong +3 more

By performing an experiment on stimulated emission by two photons in the parametric amplification process and comparing it to a three-photon interference scheme, we present evidence in support of the idea that the underlying physics of stimulated emission is simply the constructive interference due to photon indistinguishability. So the observed signal enhancement upon the input of photons can be interpreted as a result of multiphoton interference of the input photons and the otherwise spontaneously emitted photon from the amplifier.

Theory of two-photon entanglement in type-II optical parametric down-conversion

Morton H. Rubin, Давид Николаевич Клышко, Yanhua H. Shih +1 more

The theory of the two-photon state generated by type-II optical parametric down-conversion is studied with emphasis on the space-time and polarization entanglement of the photons. Several experiments are reviewed that demonstrate various aspects of the quantum nature of this state. The theory of a different type of two-photon interferometer is presented.

Polarization-entangled mode-locked photons from cavity-enhanced spontaneous parametric down-conversion

Haibo Wang, Tomoyuki Horikiri, Takayoshi Kobayashi

We report the generation of polarization-entangled photons by cavity-enhanced spontaneous parametric down-conversion. The bandwidth of entangled photons is reduced to that of the optical parometric oscillator and the conversion rate is enhanced by cavity. The time interval between the conjugate two photon is prolongated so that it can be directly measured by a common detector. The time correlation function of the entangled-photons pair shows a time-oscillatory characteristic. To demonstrate the entanglement, we experimentally obtain two-photon quantum interference for the polarization variable.

Stimulated emission of two photons in parametric amplification and its interpretation as multi-photon interference

Fang‐Wen Sun, Bi‐Heng Liu, Yan-Xiao Gong +3 more

Stimulated emission of two photons is observed experimentally in the parametric amplification process and is compared to a three-photon interference scheme. We find that the underlying physics of stimulated emission is simply the constructive interference due to photon indistinguishability. So the observed signal enhancement upon the input of photons is a result of multi-photon interference of the input photons and the otherwise spontaneously emitted photon from the amplifier.

Interference enhanced polarization entanglement and the concept of an Entangled-Photon Laser

Antı́a Lamas-Linares, Christian Mikkelsen, John C. Howell +1 more

Inspired by laser operation, we address the question of whether stimulated emission into polarization entangled modes can be achieved. We describe a state produced by stimulated emission of the singlet Bell state and propose a setup for creating it. As a first important step towards an entangled-photon laser we demonstrate experimentally interference-enhanced polarization entanglement.

Distribution of polarization-entangled photonpairs produced via spontaneous parametric down-conversion within a local-area fiber network: Theoretical model and experiment

Han Chuen Lim, Akio Yoshizawa, Hidemi Tsuchida +1 more

We present a theoretical model for the distribution of polarization-entangled photon-pairs produced via spontaneous parametric down-conversion within a local-area fiber network. This model allows an entanglement distributor who plays the role of a service provider to determine the photon-pair generation rate giving highest two-photon interference fringe visibility for any pair of users, when given user-specific parameters. Usefulness of this model is illustrated in an example and confirmed in an experiment, where polarization-entangled photon-pairs are distributed over 82 km and 132 km of dispersion-managed optical fiber. Experimentally observed visibilities and entanglement fidelities are in good agreement with theoretically predicted values.
