Quantum theory is one of the prominent progresses in physics in last century. This paper focuses on advances in signal and image processing methods based on quantum theory. Firstly, some basic quantum theoretical concepts are introduced. Then, quantum signal processing, quantum neural network and quantum image processing are discussed separately. Quantum signal processing is stressed since it is a different branch from others in quantum information theory. It only employs the idea of quantum measurement in signal processing but need not fulfill the algorithms on quantum computers. Several applications of quantum signal processing are discussed here. At last, the prospects in this area are described.
In this article we present a signal processing framework that we refer to as quantum signal processing (QSP) (Eldar 2001) that is aimed at developing new or modifying existing signal processing algorithms by borrowing from the principles of quantum mechanics and some of its interesting axioms and constraints. However, in contrast to such fields as quantum computing and quantum information theory, it does not inherently depend on the physics associated with quantum mechanics. Consequently, in developing the QSP framework we are free to impose quantum mechanical constraints that we find useful and to avoid those that are not. This framework provides a unifying conceptual structure for a variety of traditional processing techniques and a precise mathematical setting for developing generalizations and extensions of algorithms, leading to a potentially useful paradigm for signal processing with applications in areas including frame theory, quantization and sampling methods, detection, parameter estimation, covariance shaping, and multiuser wireless communication systems. We present a general overview of the key elements in quantum physics that provide the basis for the QSP framework and an indication of the key results that have so far been developed within this framework. In the remainder of the article, we elaborate on the various elements in this figure.
Quantum Signal Processing (QSP) emerges as a groundbreaking paradigm, exploiting the principles of quantum mechanics to revolutionize the analysis, manipulation, and interpretation of signals. This paper introduces a novel framework for QSP, delineating its theoretical foundations and potential to surpass classical signal processing capabilities. The research delves into the development of quantum algorithms that exhibit superior efficiency in the frequency domain analysis and the processing of temporally entangled signal structures. A pivotal aspect of this work is the introduction of quantum Fourier transforms as a mechanism to achieve exponential speed-ups in signal decomposition. Furthermore, the paper explores the implementation of quantum error correction techniques to enhance the robustness of signal processing in the presence of quantum noise and decoherence. The practicality of QSP is demonstrated through simulated quantum circuits, providing a blueprint for future quantum computing hardware applications. The implications of this research are profound, suggesting a transformative impact on fields ranging from secure communications to biomedical imaging. By harnessing the entanglement and superposition properties inherent to quantum systems, QSP is poised to redefine the limits of what is computationally feasible within information processing.
Quantum computation and quantum information is a new research field and interdiscipline of physics, mathematics, computer and information sciences. It is a wonderful combination of the theory of quantum mechanics and classical computation. It has been concerned by many national governments and research groups.Algorithm is the kernel of classical computation as well known, and this situation is the same to quantum computation.Currently, the most representative algorithms are only two.One is Shor's algorithm. The other is Grover's algorithm. The fast computation of set operation is very important, and it is the base of many aspects of sciences and techniques, such as database operation, image processing, signal processing. But,for the set with high-dimension unsorted vectors, the classical electronic computer can do nothing for the requirement of fast computation. Therefore, the new computation principle and new algorithm will be needed for set operations.Quantum image processing is a progress that uses quantum computer to process image and wants to get a better result than that of the electronic computer. It is a new born topic, which will be a hot research topic in the future. This paper presents a comprehensive statementabout quantum algorithm, quantum set operation, quantum image processing and quantum Hopfield neural network.
This paper introduces a novel quantum simulation theory for high-frequency signal processing, leveraging the unique properties of quantum entanglement to achieve enhanced precision in signal modulation and analysis, particularly in the context of processing ultra-high frequency signals. The core of this theory centers on the application of quantum entanglement to signal manipulation, aiming to reduce noise and improve accuracy. We propose a new approach to signal processing that integrates quantum mechanics into traditional computational methods, offering a fundamentally different paradigm for handling complex signal characteristics. The theoretical framework explores various quantum algorithms and their potential impact on signal processing tasks. This work presents a preliminary investigation of this concept, highlighting the potential for significant advancements in signal processing techniques.
Histogram plays an important statistical role in digital image processing. However, the existing quantum image models are deficient to do this kind of image statistical processing because different gray scales are not distinguishable. In this paper, a novel quantum image representation model is proposed firstly in which the pixels with different gray scales can be distinguished and operated simultaneously. Based on the new model, a fast quantum algorithm of constructing histogram for quantum image is designed. Performance comparison reveals that the new quantum algorithm could achieve an approximately quadratic speedup than the classical counterpart. The proposed quantum model and algorithm have significant meanings for the future researches of quantum image processing.
