Abstract

An analytical expressions of the reflection and the transmission coefficient are strictly derived by using the foundational idea of the path-ingegral for single and double-barrier.An alternative theoretical method studying the scattering of multi-barrier quantum-well structures is provided in this paper.

Nonlocal approach to scattering in a one-dimensional problem

Ph. Grossel, J. M. Vigoureux, Fadi Baida

An alternative approach to the one-dimensional scattering problem is presented. We show that the reflection and the transmission coefficients of any number of quantum wells or barriers can directly be obtained by using two mathematical methods. The first method arises from a generalization of the so-called elementary symmetric functions used in the mathematical theory of polynomials; the second one consists of a complex generalization of Einstein's addition law for parallel velocities. These laws for the reflection and transmission amplitude coefficients permit a rapid evaluation of the transmittivity of any kind of potential barrier. Some examples are considered. Results are compared with the ones obtained with the WKB method. We also present a numerical study to test the stability of the method.

Quantum dynamics of a particle interacting with a double barrier

Ilaria Cacciari, Marco Lantieri, Paolo Moretti

Following a previously developed method, the problem of a particle scattered by a double barrier is studied. Instead of the simple transmission or reflection, the more difficult case of the arrival in the region between the barriers is considered and solved explicitly by using matrix methods.

Exploring Quantum Tunneling Phenomena: Theoretical Models and Technological Applications of Multi-Barriers

Yang He

This paper focuses on the quantum tunneling effect, which describes how a particle may penetrate barriers or obstructions using the Schrödinger equation. If a particle makes a barrier tunneling, it means that a particle with low energy goes through the barrier whose energy level is much higher. It is a basis or background for the entire theory of this part. The particle transport probability is explained using both single- and multi-barrier system models. The paper studies the relationship between barrier parameters and particle transmission probability for both single- and multiple-barrier system models. The aim of the study is the provision of the theoretical devices and algorithms via a quantum operational efficiency.Particularly, the paper deals with the multipath barrier tunneling effect, and it connects the transmission coefficients with the system parameters. The goal of this article is to come up with the new strategies and procedures that one can use the quantum phenomenon of the tunneling effect in the contemporary physical th applications, cutting the gap between theoretical physics and technology. This will be done by studying and analyzing theoretical processes and mathematics of this phenomenon along with the technological applications it has.

Scattering from a Double Square Barrier

ZHOU YU QING

Scattering of free particles by a one dimensional double square barrier composed of two square barriers of equal height is investigated, and the effect on the total transmission coefficient due to neglect of reflection from the right side of the first square barrier is analyzed. It is found out whether a formula for scattering from a potential barrier slowly changing with position is obtained by neglecting reflections.
