Abstract

Baed on decoding performance, complexity and latency of low density parity check(LDPC) codes,a low-complexity parallel decoding algorithm was proposed.By simplifying the message sent from check nodes to bit nodes, the complexity of the algorithm approaches that of the mini-sum algorithm.Simulation results show that the performance is very close to belief propagation algorithm in performance.

Reduced-complexity belief propagation decoding for low-density parity-check codes

Junli Li, X.D. Zhang

A novel dual-min-sum decoding algorithm for low-density parity-check codes is proposed. The proposed algorithm simplifies the check-node updates and thus reduces the computational complexity of the belief propagation (BP) algorithm significantly. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve an error performance very close to that of the BP algorithm.

Reduced-Complexity Decoding of LDPC Codes

Reduced-Complexity Decoding of LDPC Codes Various log-likelihood-ratio-based belief-propagation (LLR- BP) decoding algorithms and their reduced-complexity derivatives for low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes are presented. Numerically accurate representations of the check-node update computation used in LLR-BP decoding are described. Furthermore, approximate representation of the decoding computations are shown to achieve a reduction in complexity, by simplifying the check-node update or symbol-node update, or both. In particular, two main approaches for simplified check-node updates are presented that are based on the so-called min-sum approximation coupled with either a normalization term or an additive offset term. Density evolution is used to analyze the performance of these decoding algorithms, to determine the optimum values of the key parameters, and to evaluate finite quantization effects. Simulation results show that these reduced-complexity decoding algorithms for LDPC codes achieve a performance very close to that of the BP algorithm. The unified treatment of decoding techniques for LDPC codes presented here provides flexibility in selecting the appropriate scheme from a performance, latency, computational complexity, and memory-requirement perspective.

Differential Decoding of Low-Density Parity-Check Codes Based on Min Sum Algorithm

Shizhang Peng, Zemao Zhao, Jianrong Bao

To improve performance and reduce computation complexity of the low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, a min-sum based differential decoding algorithm is proposed. The main principle is that the messages passing in the bipartite graph of the codes are the probability differences and the updates of the check nodes adopt min sum algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve about 0.4dB performance gain over the UMP BP-Based decoding algorithm at bit error rate (BER) of under an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. And it can obtain good performance very close to that of the BP decoding algorithm with much lower complexity.

Design and Implementation of Low Bit Error Rate of LDPC Decoder

Ashlesha P. Kshirsagar, Sandeep Kakde, Manish Devendra Chawhan +1 more

Many classes of high-performance Low-density parity check codes are based on parity check matrices composed of permutation sub matrices. The emulation-simulation framework further allows the algorithm and implementation to be iteratively redefined to improve the error floor performance of message passing decoder. Log-Like hood-Ratio (LLR) based Belief-Propagation (BP) algorithm is presented for Low Density Parity Check codes. Numerically accurate representation of check node update computation used in LLR-BP decoding is described. The implementation of Sum-Product algorithm (SPA) within Low Density Parity Check Code (LDPC) decoder is described in this paper and the correction term is used to improve the decoding performance of min-sum algorithm (MSA). Quantization and log-tanh function approximation in sum-product decoder strongly affect which absorbing set dominates in error floor region. For LDPC decoder, bit error rate (BER) decreases with increase in the signal to noise ratio.

Efficient LDPC Decoding Algorithm Based on Min-sum

Jingao Liu

To improve the decoding performance of Low Density Parity Check(LDPC) code,an efficient decoding algorithm based on min-sum algorithm is proposed. The proposed algorithm analyzes the check node update equation and at the view of probability to form an approximation min-sum equation. It adopts a dynamic normalization factor to improve the decoding performance. Detailed simulation results and comparisons with Belief Propagation(BP) algorithm show that, with little decoding performance loss, the proposed algorithm not only decreases computational load, but also improves decoding efficiency.
