Calculation of Spectroscopy Response of Probe Field in AC Stark Effect by Phase analysis Method

Abstract

In the experiments of ac Stark effect, the energy level shift of atoms is measured by use of the spectroscopy peak position shift of probe field. The phase analysis method is not only convenient in the calculation of energy level shift for antoms, but also convenient in the calculation of spectroscopy response for probe field. The application of the method to probe field is discussed in the paper.

Interference phenomenon of AC Stark effect in optical Ramsey frequency standard

Jingbiao Chen, Junhai Zhang, Fengzhi Wang +2 more

In this report, we discussed the interference phenomenon of the AC Stark effect in optical frequency standard with Ramsey spectroscopy. The analytic expression and its numerical result show that an interference fringe is superimposed on the usual AC Stark level shift dispersion line-shape. This phenomenon has never been observed before. By numerical method, we have analyzed the interesting feature of this effect in detail. A method to measure the interference of the AC Stark effect is presented. Finally, a method to observe super-steep dispersion in separated fields scheme is proposed.

E-field dependence of the ac Stark effect probed by a bichromatic laser field

Timothy W. Schmidt, Gareth O. Roberts

In this paper we demonstrate, through numerical calculations, the possibility of determining the field dependence of the ac Stark effect through the interaction of an atom (or molecule) with a bichromatic ultrafast laser field. The time-dependent Schrödinger equation is solved for a single active electron confined to move in a square-well potential distorted by an intense Stark field in combination with a perturbative probe field which connects a pair of levels through photon absorption. The aim is to determine the field parameters that allow the dependence of the dynamic shift of the optically connected levels on the Stark field to be mapped out in real time. The calculations show that this can be achieved when the duration of the probe field is at least as short as the half-cycle period of the Stark field. An experimental realization of the proposed measurement scheme and its limitations are discussed. It is also possible, in principle, to adopt the ac Stark effect to determine the absolute phase of the carrier wave of an ultrafast laser pulse.

AC Stark shift of atomic energy levels

Nikolai B. Delone, В. П. Крайнов

Calculated and experimental data on the AC Stark shift of atomic levels in an external, subatomic-strength variable field are considered. Theoretical predictions concerning the disturbance of atomic spectra by fields of atomic and superatomic strength are discussed. The limiting value of the atomic AC Stark shift in a light-frequency radiation field is estimated.

AC stark interference effect in optical Ramsey atomic interferometer

Jingbiao Chen

In an optical Ramsey atomic interferometer using Ramsey separated oscillating fields method, AC Stark effect shows that an interference feature is superimposed on the AC Stark level shift dispersion line-shape. This phenomenon has never been observed before. In this report, an analytic expression of the AC Stark shift in optical Ramsey atomic interferometer has been derived, and the numerical result of this interesting feature has been analyzed. Finally, the condition to measure the Interference of AC Stark Effect has been discussed.

Measurement of Energy Level Shift of Ultracold Cesium Atoms by Raman Pump–Probe Spectroscopy

Zhonghua Ji, Yanting Zhao, Jie Ma +2 more

AC Stark shift and Zeeman shift of ultracold atoms are measured by a simple Raman pump–probe spectroscopy. We systematically investigate the relationship between these energy level shifts and the experimental parameters of trapping beam intensity, trapping beam detuning and magnetic gradient. The experimental results agree with theoretical values predicted by F = 1↔ F ' = 2 model, which is developed from a multi-level cesium atom interacting with pump and probe beams.

ac Stark effect in a doubly driven three-level atom

Changjiang Wei, Dieter Suter, Andrew S. M. Windsor +1 more

In this paper we present a detailed treatment of the ac Stark effect of a three-level atom driven by two strong laser fields in a cascade scheme. We consider two situations where there is a weak laser field probing a new transition starting from one of the three levels to a fourth level. In one case the initial level of the probed transition is the ground state and in the other case the initial level is the intermediate state. For both situations we derive an analytical expression for the absorptive and dispersive responses of the weak probe field and present the spectrum obtained from numerical calculation. The general feature of the spectrum has a three-peak structure. The positions and relative intensities of the three spectral components are affected strongly by the driving field intensities and detunings. An account of the spectrum is given in terms of the dressed-state formalism.
