Abstract

To study the coherent states of the Fermi-Bose superfluid mixture system,by using the mean-field approximation and Lie Algebra,it shows that the system is in the SU(2)SU(1,1)coherent-states at T=0.The result of the ground state energy is the same as that of Bogoliubov transformation. However, the coherent state method is convenient than Bogoliubov transformation in treating the BEC-BCS systems because this method can give the both the state function and the corresponding eigenvalues of the systems.

COHERENT-STATE TREATMENT OF NONEQUILIBRIUM BOSE CONDENSATION

HUANG HONG-BIN, 东南大学物理系,南京210018

Based on the mean field and Bogoliubov approximations, we linearize the Hamiltonian of a nonequilibrium Bose condensed system, which is created by an external coherent pump field, and coupled to a reservoir. It is found that the dynamical algebra of the linearized Hamiltonian is Heisenberg and SU(1,1) Lie algebra if the coupling to reservoir is not taken into account. By using the methods of coherent state, we obtain its eigenvalues and eigen-functions-direct product of displaced squeezed-number-states and generalized SU(1,1) coherent states. Then we introduce the retarded Green's functions of elementary excitations to calculate its spectrum in the coupling situation, and further give the state functions of exciton system in weakly coupling situation.

Collective modes and stability of Bose-Fermi mixtures with a BCS-BEC crossover

Hiroyuki Shibata, Nobuhiko Yokoshi, Susumu Kurihara

We investigate an ultracold Bose-Fermi mixture with a Feshbach resonance between two hyperfine states of fermions. Using a functional integral method, we calculate collective modes associated with fermion pairs and bosons in the superfluid phase. We derive a stability condition of the mixtures that is valid in the entire region of the BCS-BEC crossover. This stability condition, which smoothly connects the well-known results obtained in both the BCS and Bose-Einstein Condensate (BEC) limits, shows that sufficiently strong fermion-boson (FB) interactions destabilize the mixtures. In order to investigate the consequence of this instability, we study the ground-state energy of both the uniformly mixed and the phase-separated states. We find that FB repulsion induces a phase separation, whereas FB attraction should cause a collapse of the mixture. The possibilities for the experimental observation of such instabilities are also discussed.

Dipole modes of a superfluid Bose–Fermi mixture in the BCS-BEC crossover

Wen Wen, Bingyan Chen, Xuewu Zhang

Abstract Motivated by the first experimental realization by the Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS) group of a mixture of a Bose–Einstein condensate with a Fermi superfluid continuously changing from a Bardeen–Cooper–Schrieffer (BCS) superfluid to a Bose–Einstein condensate (BEC) (Ferrier-Barbut et al 2014 Science 345 1035 ), we analytically study the dipole modes of the superfluid Bose–Fermi mixture in the BCS-BEC crossover. The analytical approach can explicitly reveal relationships between the frequencies of the dipole modes and the microscopic properties of the novel system. We start from coupled hydrodynamic equations, where the equation of state for the Fermi superfluid in the crossover is an analytical fitting formula based on experimental data, and by using a scaling approach we analytically study eigenfrequencies of the dipole modes for the coupled system in the ENS experimental parameters. Without the boson–fermion interaction in the equilibrium density profiles, our theoretical results can be reduced to the mean-field model and is consistent with the experimental data. However, by further taking into account the boson–fermion interaction numerically and analytically, we find that the results disagree with the experiment, especially in the parameter regime where the boson interaction is smaller than the boson–fermion interaction.

Spontaneous U(1) symmetry breaking and Bose–Einstein condensation

Qian Feng, HUANG HONG-BIN, Qi Guan-Xiao +1 more

Based on Bogoliubov's truncated Hamiltonian H B for a weakly interacting Bose system, and adding a U(1) symmetry breaking term V 1/2 (λ a 0 +λ * a 0 + ) to H B , we show by using the coherent state theory and the mean-field approximation rather than the c-number approximations, that the Bose–Einstein condensation(BEC) occurs if and only if the U(1) symmetry of the system is spontaneously broken. The real ground state energy and the justification of the Bogoliubov c-number substitution are given by solving the Schrödinger eigenvalue equation and using the self-consistent condition.

Algebraic properties of ground states of BCS and BEC superfluids

Hao Guo, Yan He, Chih-Chun Chien

By using Bogoliubov transformations to construct the ground states of fermionic Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) superfluids and weakly-interacting Bose gases supporting Bose Einstein Condensation (BEC), their algebraic structures and implications can be analyzed in detail. Both ground states are generalized squeezed coherent states saturating a generalized Heisenberg uncertainty relation, and they acquire quantized Berry phases when the corresponding systems are transported along a closed path in their parameter spaces. While the Berry phase of the BCS ground state depends on the total particle number, the Berry phase of the BEC ground state depends only on the particles outside the BEC. The Berry phases are associated with magnetic monopoles in the parameter spaces and we found that the Dirac quantization condition is satisfied. Moreover, both ground states are entangled states of the fermion or boson quanta and we found the entanglement entropy quantifying the internal correlations. A fixed particle-number approach of fermionic superfluids does not saturate the generalized uncertainty relation, exhibits internal entanglement, and gives corresponding Berry phase. In addition, the algebraic structures of the ground states can be classified by the $q$-deformed Hopf algebra, $\bigoplus_{\mathbf{k}}h_{q_{\mathbf{k}}}(1)$ for bosons and $q$-deformed Hopf superalgebra $\bigoplus_{\mathbf{k}}h_{q_{\mathbf{k}}}(1|1)$ for fermions, respectively.
