Abstract

From the angle of uncertainty relation, the difficulties in quantization of angular variation in quantum mechanics are analyzed.Hence, the contradiction between quantization of angular momentum and current theory of uncertainty relation is found.

Uncertainty relation between angular momentum and angle variable

Chandana Roy, A.B. Sannigrahi

Certain pitfalls regarding the uncertainty relation between angular momentum and the angle variable have been discussed from a didactical point of view. Further, an uncertainty relation has been derived for these variables in a simple and consistent manner; this relation is valid only for small values of uncertainty in the angle variable.

On the uncertainty relations for angular observables and beyond them

Spiridon Dumitru

For angular observables pairs (angular momentum-angle and number-phase) the adequate reference element of normality is not the Robertson-Schrödinger uncertainty relation but a Schwarz formula regarding the quantum fluctuations. Beyond such a fact the traditional interpretation of the uncertainty relations appears as an unjustified doctrine.

Quantum heuristics of angular momentum

Jean-Marc Lévy-Leblond

An elementary approach to the quantum theory of angular momentum is sketched. The quantization of angular momentum components, Heisenberg-type inequalities for their spectral dispersions, and the quantization of the angular momentum modulus are introduced without using operators or commutation relations. The purpose is to focus the attention on angular momemtum as a very important practical concept of quantum physics, as well as on its specifically quantum-theoretical aspects, right from the beginning of an introductory course. Since the heuristic arguments employed here closely parallel the rigorous derivations of a formal approach, the intuitive presentation does not contradict, but rather supports, the theoretical concepts to be introduced at a later stage.

Some remarks on the commutation relations for angle-angular momentum variables in quantum mechanics

Colm T. Whelan

A commutation relation for the observables corresponding to the azimuthal angle about the z axis and the z component of the orbital angular momentum in wave mechanics is presented which will be valid on the entire Hilbert space of states.
