Abstract

The traditional quantization algorithms lead high original disagreement rate in the secret key extraction courses, which can reduce the final secret key rate.Aiming at this problem,a pretreatment method based on parity checking is proposed in this paper. The legitimate parities divide the quantization results into groups, and exchange the parity of the groups over a public channel. It removes the groups whose parities are disagreed to reduce the original disagreement rate.Simulation results demonstrate that the new pretreatment method can not only have excellent ability of reducing the original disagreement rate, especially in the case of high original disagreement rate. The remainder ratio of this pretreatment method is improved by nearly nine times when the original disagreement rate is 0.26.

Pre-process method for reducing initial bit mismatch rate in secret key generation based on wireless channel characteristics

Qiuhua Wang, Xiaojun Wang, Qiuyun Lv +2 more

Due to non-ideal conditions in the measurements of the channel, high initial bit mismatch rate in the secret key generation is resulted, which reduces the final secret key generation rate and even causes the secret key generation process to fail. Aiming at this problem, a pre-process method that makes the initial bit mismatch rate come down quickly is proposed in this paper. Simulation results show that the new pre-process method has excellent ability of reducing the initial b it mismatch rate, especially in the case of very high initial bit mismatch rate. The data remaining rate is improved by more than thirty-seven times when the initial bit mismatch rate is 0.3.

An Improved CQA Quantization Algorithm for Physical Layer Secret Key Extraction

Lei Huang, Dengke Guo, Jun Xiong +1 more

With the wide application of wireless sensor network, the security mechanism based on cryptography faces many challenges in computational complexity and security, and physical layer secret key extraction as an alternative solution has been widely studied. To meet the requirements of high key generation rate (KGR) and low key disagreement rate (KDR) in the secret key extraction process, an improved channel quantization alternating (CQA) algorithm is proposed in this paper. The algorithm filtrates the phase values of channel frequency response (CFR) using test results of CFR amplitude values, and then quantizes the reserved phase values by CQA algorithm. Compared to the existing CQA algorithm and improved channel quantization with guard-band (CQG) algorithm, simulation results show that the KDR of the proposed algorithm decreases by 31.5% and 20.4%, and the KGR decreases by 5.4% and increases by 5.2%, respectively. The proposed algorithm improves the KGR while ensuring a low KDR, and the extracted secret key passes the NIST test.

Methods for Improving the Rate of Secret Key Generation based on Wireless Channel Characteristics

Qiuhua Wang, Xiaojun Wang, Qiuyun Lv +1 more

Due to non-ideal conditions in the measurements of the wireless channel, high initial bit error rate (BER) in the preliminary key is resulted, which reduces the final secret key generation rate and even causes the secret key generation process fail. Aiming to resolve this problem, we first present and verify an optimal information reconciliation protocol; the validation experiment shows that not only the BER comes down more quickly, but also a higher information rate is achieved. Then, to address the problem of very high initial BER and further improve the efficiency of the secret key generation, we introduce the idea of pre-distillation into the secret key generation system, and present a pre-distillation method, which makes the initial BER comes down quickly, and ensures the subsequent information reconciliation be easily performed; hence the total key generation rate is improved. Experimental results demonstrate that the pre-distillation method has excellent ability of reducing the initial BER, especially in the case of very high initial BER. The combination of our proposed pre-distillation and our optimal information reconciliation is the most efficient one when the initial BER is larger than 0.15, and the information rate is improved by more than forty-nine times when the initial BER is 0.3

Improved Channel Information Extraction toward Efficient Secret Key Generation

Yuqin Gan, Xia Lei, Yue Xiao +2 more

Exploiting the reciprocity and randomness of the wireless channel for secret key generation (SKG) is a promising technique, which attracts great interests recently toward physical layer security. Although various methods have been developed for efficient SKG, the key disagreement rate (KDR) performance is still difficult to be ensured when the transmission channel is with severe interference and noise. To alleviate this problem, this paper presents an efficient channel information extraction algorithm based on extracting effective channel paths to reduce the KDR. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm provides significant improvement compared with the existing approaches.

Physical Layer Secret Key Agreement Using One-Bit Quantization and Low-Density Parity-Check Codes

John A. Snoap

Physical layer approaches for generating secret encryption keys for wireless systems using channel information have attracted increased interest from researchers in recent years. This paper presents a new approach for calculating log-likelihood ratios (LLRs) for secret key generation that is based on one-bit quantization of channel measurements and the difference between channel estimates at legitimate reciprocal nodes. The studied secret key agreement approach, which implements advantage distillation along with information reconciliation using Slepian-Wolf low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, is discussed and illustrated with numerical results obtained from simulations. These results show the probability of bit disagreement for keys generated using the proposed LLR calculations compared with alternative LLR calculation methods for key generation based on channel state information. The proposed LLR calculations are shown to be an improvement to the studied approach of physical layer secret key agreement.

Improved Mult-bit Adaptive Quantization algorithm for Physical Layer Security based on Channel Charscteristics

You Wu, Haifei Xia, Chen Cheng

Wireless channel has many characteristics such as reciprocity, time variation, spatial uniqueness, etc. This paper extracted secret key from its noisy radio channel measurements at two nodes by exploiting the reciprocity of wireless channel in time division system. Therefore, the secret key could be generated with the channel estimation to overcome the drawback of the key pre-distribution mechanism. Aiming at solving the problem that the multibit adaptive quantization scheme to achieve low key generation consistency probability, the paper proposes m-windows filtering mechanism to preprocess channel eigenvalues. The simulation results show that the improved algorithm achieves higher key agreement rate and key generation rate, especially when the signal to noise ratio is low, reduce the key inconsistency rate particularly noticeable.
