Abstract

Due to non-ideal conditions in the measurements of the channel, high initial bit mismatch rate in the secret key generation is resulted, which reduces the final secret key generation rate and even causes the secret key generation process to fail. Aiming at this problem, a pre-process method that makes the initial bit mismatch rate come down quickly is proposed in this paper. Simulation results show that the new pre-process method has excellent ability of reducing the initial b it mismatch rate, especially in the case of very high initial bit mismatch rate. The data remaining rate is improved by more than thirty-seven times when the initial bit mismatch rate is 0.3.

Methods for Improving the Rate of Secret Key Generation based on Wireless Channel Characteristics

Qiuhua Wang, Xiaojun Wang, Qiuyun Lv +1 more

Due to non-ideal conditions in the measurements of the wireless channel, high initial bit error rate (BER) in the preliminary key is resulted, which reduces the final secret key generation rate and even causes the secret key generation process fail. Aiming to resolve this problem, we first present and verify an optimal information reconciliation protocol; the validation experiment shows that not only the BER comes down more quickly, but also a higher information rate is achieved. Then, to address the problem of very high initial BER and further improve the efficiency of the secret key generation, we introduce the idea of pre-distillation into the secret key generation system, and present a pre-distillation method, which makes the initial BER comes down quickly, and ensures the subsequent information reconciliation be easily performed; hence the total key generation rate is improved. Experimental results demonstrate that the pre-distillation method has excellent ability of reducing the initial BER, especially in the case of very high initial BER. The combination of our proposed pre-distillation and our optimal information reconciliation is the most efficient one when the initial BER is larger than 0.15, and the information rate is improved by more than forty-nine times when the initial BER is 0.3

A New Low-BMR Quantization Method for Wireless Channel Characteristics-based Secret Key Generation

Qiuhua Wang, Qiuyun Lyu, Xiaojun Wang +1 more

Channel characteristics-based secret key generation is an effective physical-layer security method. The issues of how to remove the effect of random noise and to balance the key generation rate (KGR) and the bit mismatch rate (BMR) are needed to be addressed. In this paper, to reduce the effect of random noise and extract more secret bits, a new quantization scheme with high key generation rate and low bit mismatch rate is proposed. In our proposed scheme, we try to use all measurements and correct the differences caused by noise at the boundary regions instead of simply dropping them.We evaluate and discuss the improvements of our proposed scheme. The results show that our proposed scheme achieves lower bit mismatch rate as well as remaining high key generation rate.

Skema Peningkatan Reciprocity Kanal dengan Menggunakan Metode Hierarchical Clustering

Prima Kristalina, Florista Dewi, Mike Yuliana +3 more

Secret key generation scheme that utilizesthe randomness of wireless channels is a very promising alternative to establish a secure communication path. Some wireless devices are used to obtain the channel parameters. But the problem that occurs is imprecise measurement results, causinga secret key difference between the two users. To overcome this problem, pre-processing method is used before the data is quantized, to increase the similarity (reciprocity) channel parameter measurement results. In this paper, the effect of the use of one pre-process method, which was hierarchical clustering, on the performance of secret key generation scheme in an indoorenvironment with two variations of scenario was investigated. The results show that the use of the pre-processingmethod can improve the similarity parameter of the channel measurement results as indicated by the increasing of correlation values up to 20%. In addition, the resulting bit mismatch also decreases with the value of key disagreement rate (KDR) maximum of 20%.

Improving performance of secret key generation from wireless channel using filtering techniques

Mike Yuliana, Wirawan Wirawan, Suwadi Suwadi

Secure communication in a wireless environment is very vital, and cryptographic schemes are usually used to ensure it. Secret keys that are unknown to the tappers are needed by cryptographic schemes to secure communication between two legitimate users. In recent years the secret key generation scheme that utilizes a wireless channel as a secret key generation source has become a very interesting and promising topic. The main problem of this scheme is the high wireless channel mismatch between two users due to nonsimultaneous measurements and noise from the device. In this paper, we proposed a secret key generation scheme that uses the Savitzky-Golay filter method to reduce the high mismatch wireless channel. The scheme that was built was also equipped with a multibit quantization method to increase the speed of generation of secret keys. The results of our tests show a decrease in wireless channel mismatch between two users and an increase in the speed of generation of secret keys.

Research on Quantization Scheme in the Secret Key Extraction from Received Signal Strength

Chengzhi Yang, Ting Jiang

In order to find an effective secret key generation scheme in wireless networks, many based on received signal strength methods have been proposed. However, the secret bit rates of existing schemes are relatively low.To resolve the problem of low generation rate, a vector quantization scheme is proposed in this paper where channel measurements are reused and every measurement can be quantified into two bits without increasing mismatching rate.Performance simulation results show that our proposed scheme improves the key generation rate almost twice at high entropy in comparison to the traditional schemes. At the same time, our scheme passes the randomness tests of the NIST test suite.

Improved Mult-bit Adaptive Quantization algorithm for Physical Layer Security based on Channel Charscteristics

You Wu, Haifei Xia, Chen Cheng

Wireless channel has many characteristics such as reciprocity, time variation, spatial uniqueness, etc. This paper extracted secret key from its noisy radio channel measurements at two nodes by exploiting the reciprocity of wireless channel in time division system. Therefore, the secret key could be generated with the channel estimation to overcome the drawback of the key pre-distribution mechanism. Aiming at solving the problem that the multibit adaptive quantization scheme to achieve low key generation consistency probability, the paper proposes m-windows filtering mechanism to preprocess channel eigenvalues. The simulation results show that the improved algorithm achieves higher key agreement rate and key generation rate, especially when the signal to noise ratio is low, reduce the key inconsistency rate particularly noticeable.
