Abstract

Under the assumption that the input field is in a coherent state and the atom is prepared in the most excited state, the time evolution of atomic populations of a cascade atom embedded in a Kerr medium is investigated by using the full quantum mechanical scheme. It is found that, with a large single-photon detuning,an atomic transition transfer can be realized by changing the intensity of the input field. An explanation to the phenomena is proposed.

Effect of Additional Kerr Medium on Field Statistics in Cascade Three-level Jaynes-Cummings Model

Qingchun Zhou

Under the assumption that the input field is in the coherent state and the atom is prepared in the most excited state, the time evolution of the Mandel Q factor in a system consisting of a cascade atom embedded in a Kerr medium is investigated by using the full quantum mechanical scheme. It is found that Kerr effect has a great influence on the non-classical photon statistics in the case of large single-photon detuning in the system.Kerr effect suppresses non-classical photon statistics for the weak input coherent field and enhances it for the strong input coherent field.

Population Dynamics and Emission Spectrum of a Cascade Three-Level Jaynes–Cummings Model with Intensity-Dependent Coupling in a Kerr-like Medium

Qingchun Zhou

By using the method of eigenvectors, the atomic populations and emission spectrum are investigated in a system that consists of a cascade three-level atom resonantly interacting with a single-mode field in a Kerr-like medium. The atom and the field are assumed to be initially in the upper atomic state and the Fock state, respectively. Results for models with intensity-dependent coupling and with intensity-independent coupling are compared. It is found that both population dynamics and emission spectrum show no indications of atom-field decoupling in the strong field limit if the intensity-dependent coupling is taken into account.

Quantum properties of k-photon Jaynes-Cummings model in a Kerr Medium

Liao Qing-Hong

The system under consideration consists of a two-level atom coupled an optical field in k-photon Jaynes-Cummings model with a Kerr medium. The time evolution of field entropy squeezing and population inversion of the atom for three and four-photon transitions was discussed. The influence of Kerr medium on field entropy squeezing and population inversion of the atom was also analyzed. The results show that the field entropy squeezing and population inversion of the atom are sensitive to effect of Kerr medium.

Antibunching Effects in Two-photon Jaynes Cummings model with a Kerr-like Medium

We have studied antibunching effects in a system where a two level atom interacts with a single mode field surrounded by a Kerr like medium in a high Q cavity through two photon transition, particularly shown the influence of the coupling constant between a Kerr like medium and field, detuning on antibunching under different initial atomic states.

Population Dynamics of a Four-level Cascade System Due to Three-photon Processes in the Presence of a Loss Mechanism

David A. Cardimona, M. P. Sharma, A. Gavrielides

The population dynamics of a four-level atom, with decay from the highest level, interacting with three arbitrarily intense laser fields is studied. In a previous paper [4], this four-level system was investigated with no decay included. For a specific set of input fields, it was found that substantial population could be transferred from the ground state to the highest excited state. In that study, the detunings required to obtain this maximum population transfer were not explained. In this present work, we have introduced a two-level atom model that explains this choice of detunings. They are such as to make the three fields resonant with the Stark-shifted
