Abstract

This paper use serial BP decoding algorithm to decode nonbinary LDPC codes in order to reduce decoding latency in optical fiber communication system. Then we introduce the serial BP decoding algorithm for nonbinary LDPC codes and the simulation model of optical communication system in detail. After that we show the performance effect of the maximum iterations of serial BP decoding algorithm in LDPC decoder and compare the performance of the decoder with traditional BP decoding algorithm and serial BP decoding algorithm. The result indicates that serial BP decoding algorithm can really increase the convergence speed of LDPC decoder.

Application of Serial Min-max Decoding Algorithm Based on Variable Weighting for Nonbinary LDPC Codes in Optical Communication

Zhongxun Wang, Xinglong Gao

Abstract: In this paper, we perform an analysis on the min-max decoding algorithm for nonbinary LDPC (lowdensity parity-check) codes and propose serial min-max decoding algorithm. After that, combining with the weighted processing of the variable node message, we propose serial min-max decoding algorithm based on variable weighting for nonbinary LDPC codes. In the end, we perform a detailed analysis on the features of optical communication and show the simulation model in optical communication system. The simulation indicates that when the bit error rate is 10-3 and used in optical communication, compared with serial min-max decoding algorithm, traditional min-max decoding algorithm and traditional min-sum algorithm, serial min-max decoding algorithm based on variable weighting can offer additional coding gain 0.2 dB, 0.3 dB and 0.4 dB respectively in (AWGN) additional white Gaussian noise channel and under (OOK) on-off keying modulation. Research on encoding and decoding algorithms of non-binary LDPC code and FPGA implementation

Zhongxun Wang, Baojun Liu, Min Zhang +1 more

Low density parity check (LDPC) code is a kind of linear block code with excellent performance which is proposed by Dr. Gallager. It overcomes the shortcomings of other error correcting codes and it is the nearest channel code from Shannon limit at the present discover. The decoding algorithms of L DPC code can reduce the decoding delay by the parallel decoding structure, so this has caused great concern in many fields. In recent years more and more scholars begin to study LDPC code, this makes the coding and decoding algorithms of LDPC code improved continuously. LDPC code has been widely used in many fields such as optical fiber communication, digital watermarking, underwater communication and deep space communication because of its excellent performance. Non-binary LDPC code has better performance compared with binary LDPC code. In this paper, FFT-BP decoding algorithm of non-binary LDPC code is studied, and on this basis, we proposed an improved FFT-BP algorithm. The improved decoding algorithm can effectively reduce the average iteration number. Finally, we achieved encode and decode algorithm of non-binary LDPC code with FPGA.

Simulation Research of Nonbinary LDPC Code Based on Finite Fields

Yuxiang Li, Guolong Liang, Guangpu Zhang

The encoding and decoding of binary LDPC codes are expanded using characteristics of the Finite Fields concept, a nonbinary LDPC code encoding and decoding method based on the Finite Fields are investigated and the computational complexity of this algorithm is estimated, providing a foundation for the practical applications of this method. Then this algorithm is compared with the binary algorithm. The results show that its performance is superior to the binary BP iterative algorithm. Finally, the effects of the relevant factors such as the number of iterations selected, the structure of the check matrix etc on the algorithm performance were analyzed.

Experimental evaluation of high-speed optical fiber communication using nonbinary LDPC coded modulation with layered decoding

Murat Arabaci, Ivan B. Djordjević

In this paper, we present a reduced-latency nonbinary low-density parity-check (LDPC) coded modulation scheme suitable for high-speed optical fiber communication featuring the layered LDPC decoding algorithm. The use of the layered decoder in place of the conventional flooding decoder helps reduce by half the number of iterations taken in decoding. This in turn reduces the decoding latency, increases the decoding throughput, and significantly lowers the power consumption at the receiving ends of optical transport networks. We show by using the experimental data collected from a 4-ary rate-0.8 LDPC-coded NRZ-DQPSK modulation system that layered decoding indeed halves the required number of decoding iterations. We also show that, in the back-to-back configuration, even with a single iteration of layered decoding, one can attain a 7 dB gain in performance at the bit error ratio (BER) of 10-5when compared to using only the maximum a posteriori probability detector output based on the Bahl-Cocke-Jelinek-Raviv (BCJR) algorithm.

The Min-max Decoding Algorithm of Nonbinary

Zhongxun Wang, Xinglong Gao

In this paper, we propose the min-max decoding algorithm of nonbinary LDPC codes based on early stopping by analyzing and combining traditional min-max decoding algorithm of nonbinary LDPC codes and the early stopping rule of binary LDPC codes. The simulation indicates that the proposed algorithm can greatly reduce the number of iterations in decoding process with almost no decoding performance loss compared with traditional minsum decoding algorithm of nonbinary LDPC codes and traditional min-max decoding algorithm of nonbinary LDPC codes in low signal-to-noise ratio region , which is in additive Gaussian white noise channel and under binary phase shift keying modulation. So the computational complexity can be effectively reduced and the real-time performance can be well improved.
