Quantum phase transition caused by the frustration and anisotropic effect in the S=1 ferromagnetic model

Abstract

By using the density matrix renormalization group(DMRG) method, the author investigates the diagram of the one-dimensional frustrated anisotropic ferromagnetic S=1 Heisenberg spin model,in which the nearest neighboring interactions are anisotropic ferromagnetic and the next nearest neighboring exchanges are considerable anti-ferromagnetic.The ground state energy and both the in-plane and out-of-plane spin correlation functions are calculated.Apart from the ferromagnetic phase and the spin-fluid phase in the small frustration region, but in the large frustration region,it is identified that spin correlations decay with a short-range exponential law and an oscillating behavior. The result is different from the previous result for S=1/2.

Frustration-Driven Quantum Phase Transition in the 1D Extended Anisotropic Heisenberg Model

Evgeny A. Plekhanov, Adolfo Avella, Francesco Paolo Mancini

By using density matrix renormalization group technique we study the 1D extended anisotropic Heisenberg model. We find that starting from the ferromagnetic phase, the system undergoes two quantum phase transitions induced by frustration.By increasing the next-nearest-neighbor interaction, the ground state of the system changes smoothly from a completely polarized state to a next-nearest-neighbor correlated one.On the contrary, letting the in-plane interaction to be greater than the out-of-plane one, the ground state changes abruptly.

Quantum phase transition as a result of magnetic frustrations in a ferrimagnetic Heisenberg system

Zhang Song-Jun, Jianjun Jiang, Yongjun Liu +1 more

Using density-matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method, we studied the effect of magnetic frustrations due to next-nearest- neighbor bonds in a system of quasi-one-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chain but with ferrimagnetic properties. In this paper, the ground state energy per unit cell, spin correlation function and spin gap are calculated. As a result of the frustrations, the quantum disordered phase with the spin gap appears at the spin order-disorder phase transition point αC≈0.412 to α=1. And in the region of magnetic-order phase, the increasing magnetic frustrations reduce the magnetic order.

Ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic phase transition in the Hubbard model due to next-nearest electron hopping

Rongming Wang

The authors investigated the frustration effect when next-nearest-electron hopping causes itinerant ferromagnetism in a one-dimensional Hubbard model.By using the exact diagonalization method and the density-matrix renormalization-group technique,it was shown that the next-nearest electron hopping term stabilizes the ferromagnetic state for a wide range of electron interactions U and electron concentrations n when the system is small.Furthermore,by calculating the local spin-spin correlation function,we found the ferromagnetic state becomes unstable as the length of the system increases.A further study showed that the ferromagnetic relationships of the system become weaker when the system's size increases. In addition, the system will transit to the anti-ferromagnetic correlation when the system reaches critical length. These observed results demonstrate on the one hand that an itinerant ferromagnetic phase exists in the electron-mixing area of small-sized material in the one-dimensional Hubbard model, and on the other hand, these observations should be helpful in understanding the origin of the itinerant ferromagnetism observed recently in some metallic and metallic oxide clusters.

Ground-State Properties of the One-Dimensional Anisotropic Spin-1/2 Heisenberg Magnet with Competing Interactions

Takashi Tonegawa, Isao Harada, Jun-ichi Igarashi

Ground-state properties are studied for the one-dimensional anisotropic spin-1/2 Heisen berg magnet with ferromagnetic nearest-neighbor and antiferromagnetic next-nearest neighbor interactions, which are assumed to have the same form as regards the anisotropy. The singlet-triplet energy gap, the magnetization, the energy, and the two-spin correlation function in the ground states of finite-size systems of up to 20 spins are calculated exactly. By extrapolating these results, the values of the above quantities at the infinite-size limit are estimated. Special attention is paid to the limiting ground-state phase diagram on the plane of the ratio of the next-nearest-neighbor interaction constant to the nearest-neighbor one versus the anisotropy parameter. It is found that, when the interactions have the XY-type anisotropy, the limiting ground state is in the spin-fluid phase or in the dimer phase depending upon whether the ratio between the interaction constants is smaller or larger than a critical value. It is also found that, when the interactions have the Ising-type anisotropy, a novel phase with unsaturated magnetization appears between the ferromagnetic and (2, 2) antiphase phases in the limiting ground-state phase diagram.

Weakly anisotropic frustrated zigzag spin chain

Д. В. Дмитриев, V. Ya. Krivnov

The frustrated spin-$1∕2$ model with weakly anisotropic ferromagnetic nearest-neighbor and antiferromagnetic next-nearest-neighbor exchanges is studied with use of variational mean-field approach, scaling estimates of the infrared divergencies in the perturbation theory and finite-size calculations. The ground-state phase diagram of this model contains three phases: the ferromagnetic phase, the commensurate spin-fluid phase, and the incommensurate phase. The nontrivial behavior of the boundaries between these phases and the character of the phase transitions in case of weak anisotropy are determined.

Phase diagram of an anisotropic frustrated ferromagnetic spin- 12 chain in a magnetic field: A density matrix renormalization group study

Fabian Heidrich‐Meisner, Ian P. McCulloch, Alexei K. Kolezhuk

We study the phase diagram of a frustrated spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ ferromagnetic chain with anisotropic exchange interactions in an external magnetic field using the density matrix renormalization group method. We show that an easy-axis anisotropy enhances the tendency toward multimagnon bound states while an easy-plane anisotropy favors chirally ordered phases. In particular, a moderate easy-plane anisotropy gives rise to a quantum phase transition at intermediate magnetization. We argue that this transition is related to the finite-field phase transition experimentally observed in the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ compound ${\text{LiCuVO}}_{4}$.
