A possible way for generating sub-poissonian field

Abstract

A novel feature in single-mode laser is revealed. The nonolassioal field with sub-poissonian photon statistics can be induced by single-mode laser at certain pump conditions. A possible way for generating sub-poissonian field is thereby proposed.

Generation of sub-Poissonian photon statistics in a two-level atomic oscillator

L. Z. Wang, Shi-Yao Zhu, János A. Bergou

According to the exact solution of a two-level atomic system interacting with a single-mode field in a cavity and including a pumping mechanism, sub-Poissonian photon statistics can be generated either by regular pumping or by resonance absorption of the lower level. When the atomic lifetime is much smaller than the interaction time (${\ensuremath{\gamma}}_{\mathit{a}\mathit{b}}$\ensuremath{\tau}\ensuremath{\gg}1), which corresponds to a usual laser system, the sub-Poissonian photon distribution can be obtained only by regular pumping. On the other hand, if the atomic lifetime is comparable with the interaction time (${\ensuremath{\gamma}}_{\mathit{a}\mathit{b}}$\ensuremath{\tau}\ensuremath{\le}1), the sub-Poissonian photon distribution can be generated by both mechanisms.

Sub-Poissonian single-emitter laser: Coherent pump vs incoherent

Ларионов Николай Владимирович, Ilya V. Safonov

We theoretically investigate the properties of a single-emitter laser with coherent pump: two-level atom interacting with a single damping cavity mode which is resonantly excited by a coherent field. With the help of numerical simulation of the master equation we show that such pumping mechanism is more preferably than incoherent pump for achieving of sub-Poissonian photon statistics.

Sub-Poissonian laser

Fritz Haake, Sze Meng Tan, Daniel F. Walls

By intermittently and periodically pumping N atoms and observing time-scale separation for pumping, emission, and photon leakage from the cavity a laser with up to 50%, sub-Poissonian photon statistics can be realized. We present a stroboscopic period-to-period description of such a laser and clarify how pumping and spontaneous emission can be eliminated and cavity damping be minimized as sources of photon noise.

Higher-order sub-Poissonian photon statistics in terms of factorial moments

Daniel B. Erenso, Reeta Vyas, Surendra Singh

We introduce the concept of higher-order super-Poissonian and sub-Poissonian statistics and show that higher-order sub-Poissonian statistics is a signature of a nonclassical field. Fields generated in intracavity second-harmonic generation and single-atom resonance fluorescence are shown to exhibit higher-order sub-Poissonian statistics.

Producing squeezed light from conventionally pumped lasers

Craig M. Savage, Alex Stevenson, Timothy C. Ralph

It has recently been discovered that the quantum theory of the laser allows conventional lasers to produce squeezed light.1-3 The physics of this squeezing is uncomplicated and robust. It relies on the fact that a sequence of Poissonian transitions having the same total mean transition time as a single Poissonian process have less time variance than the single process. Hence the sequence of transitions has sub-Poissonian time statistics. This can be transformed into sub-Poissonian laser pumping and hence into sub-Poissonian and quadrature squeezed laser light. We will discuss how this theory can be put into practice. The effects of mode structure and inefficiences will be assessed. Candidate lasers and progress towards their experimental realization will be discussed.

Sub-Poissonian three-level lasing with anm-photon coherent pump

Yu. M. Golubev, Olga A. Kocharovskaya, Yuri V. Rostovtsev +1 more

We theoretically consider a three-level laser with an incoherent one-way pump from a ground state into an intermediate excited state and a coherent drive into the upper laser state. The possibilities of inversionless lasing are studied. It is demonstrated that, in the case of a strong coupling with the drive laser (when its generation depends essentially on the three-level medium), the quantum properties of laser radiation can be improved by using m-quantum coherent excitation or by applying a sub-Poissonian coherent pump.
