Abstract

Projection operator is studied by considered teaching.Firstly, advantage of projection operator is clarified.Secondly,it is discussed how the procedure teaching method is realized in teaching of projection operator. And the manner on guiding students to undertake researching study is investigated. Finally, dealing with the calculation problem of quantum mechanics via computers is explained and emphasized.

Introductory Quantum Mechanics with the Computer

John R. Merrill

This paper presents a way to use a computer in the teaching of introductory, stationary state, Schrödinger quantum mechanics. The method is based upon an easily explained computer method; a 20-line program in BASIC is presented to implement the strategy. Not only is this numerical technique completely general for all one-dimensional and all spherically symmetric, three-dimensional problems, but also it allows the student to be introduced to topics of interest such as asymptotic solutions. Several examples of the use of the computer technique are presented.

Deformation quantization in the teaching of quantum mechanics

Allen C. Hirshfeld, Peter Henselder

We discuss the deformation quantization approach for the teaching of quantum mechanics. This approach has certain conceptual advantages that make its consideration worthwhile. In particular, it sheds new light on the relation between classical and quantum mechanics. We demonstrate how it can be used to solve specific problems and clarify its relation to conventional quantization and path integral techniques. We also discuss its recent applications in relativistic quantum field theory.

Teaching Suggestions of Quantum Information to Undergraduate Students

Jianhong Shi, Xiang-Qun Fu, Hongwei Li

Quantum information is a new subject produced by the cross integration of quantum physics and information technology, mainly including quantum communication, quantum computing and quantum metrology. In recent years, quantum information technologies such as quantum cryptography and quantum computing have developed rapidly. Under this background, some universities have set up a professional elective course of quantum information for undergraduates majoring in cyberspace security. This course mainly introduces students to quantum information related to cyberspace security, such as quantum key distribution, quantum cryptographic algorithm, quantum computing algorithm and quantum computer. This paper combs and summarizes the teaching experience of quantum information course group from the perspectives of teaching and learning. On the one hand, it discusses how teachers organize teaching effectively. According to the characteristics of undergraduates majoring in cyberspace security, teacher need to set clear teaching objectives, carefully choose teaching contents, compile appropriate teaching materials, select appropriate teaching methods and make exquisite teaching slides. At the same time, when implementing classroom teaching, teacher need to pay attention to teach the course from the perspective of cyberspace security and integrate the latest research results of quantum information into classroom teaching in real time. On the other hand, it discusses how teachers help students learn quantum information course well. Teachers should focus on visualizing the abstract theory, helping students build their own quantum information knowledge system and improve their learning enthusiasm. The teaching experience has certain reference significance for the teaching and curriculum construction of quantum information.

Teaching quantum mechanics to junior undergraduate students:My own experience as a teacher at Peking University

Tian Guang-Shan

In this talk,I shall give a brief report on my teaching of quantum mechanics to junior physics major undergraduate students at Peking University. In order to make it easier for the students to understand the basic ideas and principles of quantum mechanics,I represented the subject by following closely its historical development.More precisely,I explained the achievements of these pioneers, such as N.Bohr,W.Heisenberg,P.Dirac and E.Schrdinger in details. As shown by my own experience, this approach is quite effective. Moreover,I find also that it is very helpful on preaching quantum mechanics to undergraduate students if some parables are properly used in lecture

Learning in quantum mechanics

David E. Gardner

This thesis describes qualitative research conducted to understand the problems students have when learning quantum mechanics. It differs from previous studies on educational issues associated with quantum mechanics in that I have examined the difficulties from the students' perspective. Three questions guided this research: What are the experiences of students learning quantum mechanics? What conceptual difficulties do students have with quantum mechanics? and, How do students approach learning quantum mechanics? From these questions, two themes emerged. First, students do not consider the quantum mechanical concepts of wave-particle duality or the uncertainty principle to be important sources of difficulties for them. Second, many of the difficulties students encounter are not related to conceptual understanding of specific topics, but stem from a mindset that is incongruent with the nature and structure of quantum mechanics. The implications for teaching are that the nature and structure of quantum mechanics should be emphasized and be an explicit part of instruction.
