A one-dimensional G-P equation on a Bose-Einstein condensation is presented. The ground-state solution and the first excited-state solution are investigated with numerical method.Furthermore, comparisons between harmonic and non-harmonic traps are also made.
We try to find the analytical solutions to the time-independent Gross-Pitaevskii equation, a nonlinear Schrödinger equation used in the simulation of Bose—Einstein condensates trapped in a harmonic potential. Both the homotopy analysis method and the Galerkin spectral method are applied. We investigate the one-dimensional case and obtain the approximate analytical solutions successfully. Comparison between the analytical solutions and the numerical solutions has been made. The results indicate that they agree very well with each other when the atomic interaction is not too strong.
Numerical solution of nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLSE) can be used to describe an inhomogeneous, weakly interact Bose-Einstein condensate in a small harmonic trap potential at zero temperature. In one dimension situation, we find solutions for the NLSE for ground-state condensate wave function, and obtain the ground-state condensate energy per particle. Furthermore, with the time-dependent NLSE, we can examine the time evolution of the macroscopic wave function even when the trap potential is changed on a time scale comparable to that of the condensate dynamics, a situation that can be easily achieved in magneto-optical traps. We show that there are stable solutions for atomic species with both positive and negative s-wave scattering length in one-dimensional (1D) system for a fixed number of atoms, and the negative scattering length solutions have solitonlike properties.
Both the homotopy analysis method and Galerkin spectral method are applied to find the analytical solutions of the two-dimensional and time-independent Gross-Pitaevskii equation, a nonlinear Schrödinger equation used in describing the system of Bose-Einstein condensates trapped in a harmonic potential. The approximate analytical solutions are obtained successfully. Comparisons between the analytical solutions and the numerical solutions have been made. The results indicate that they are agreement very well with each other when the atomic interaction is not too strong.
