The Effect of Antirotating Wave Coupling onSuperradiance of Frenkel Excitons

Abstract

It is shown that the irregular quivers in the light intensity of exciton superfluorescence is caused by the antirotating-wave coupling. Besides, if the antirotating-wave is removed, the first order degree of coherence of radiation will be exactly equal to one, independent of the initial condition of the excitons, and the second order degree of coherence will be the same as the initial exciton state.

Coherent States and Envelope Kinklike Exciton-Photon Coupled Modes in Nonlinear Frenkel Excitons Interacting with Radiation Fields

Shôzô Takeno

Interactions of nonlinear Frenkel excitons with an intense external radiation field (rf) are studied by taking the atomic polarization, the atomic population difference and the electric field as a set of variables to study the coherence and nonlinearity properties of the exciton-rf system. To equations for these quantities, terms are added phenomenologicaly to take care of pumping and dissipative effects. Two kinds of solutions are obtained under certain conditions, one representing the existence of the stationary coherent polarization and the macroscopic number of photons with wave number equal to that of the excitons and another envelope-kink-like, steady exciton-rf coupled modes around the stationary coherent states

Phase Transition and Exciton-Photon Coupling in Frenkel Exciton System

Mahito Mabuchi

Dynamical and statistical behaviors of Frenkel excitons in a matter system consisting of N two-level-atoms and interacting with an external field are studied with the molecular field and random phase approximations. Existence of a phase transition is suggested both in the exciton system and exciton-photon coupled system. This phase transition is the second order transition whose order parameter is the polarizability. A new type of condensation of the photon-exciton coupled wave, in which a macroscopic number of excitons and photons participate, has been found as a result of appreciable contribution of photons to the phase transition. When the incident light is coherent, the condition of phase transition is modified by photon induced exciton-exciton interaction. The energy dispersion of elementary excitations is derived.

Superradiance of low-density Frenkel excitons in a crystal slab of three-level atoms: The quantum interference effect

Guangri Jin, Peng Zhang, Yu-xi Liu +1 more

We systematically study the fluorescence of low-density Frenkel excitons in a crystal slab containing ${N}_{T}$ V-type three-level atoms. Based on symmetric quasispin realization of SU(3) in large N limit, the two-mode exciton operators are invoked to depict various collective excitations of the collection of these V-type atoms starting from their ground state. By making use of the rotating-wave approximation, the light intensity of radiation for the single-lattice layer is investigated in detail. As a quantum coherence effect, the quantum beat phenomenon is discussed in detail for different initial excitonic states. We also test the above results analytically without the consideration of the rotating-wave approximation and the self-interaction of radiance field is also included.

Quantum statistical theory of fluorescence of low density Frenkel excitons in a crystal slab

Chang-qi Cao, Hui W. Cao, Yi-xi Liu

The fluorescence of Frenkel excitons in low density regime is studied without the aid of rotating wave approximation and Markov approximation. The evolution of the emitted field is derived in terms of its initial conditions. It is found that the usual interaction Hamiltonian of $(e/mc)\mathbf{P}\ensuremath{\cdot}\mathbf{A}$ type leads to unreasonable characteristic equation for decay rates. Only when the term ${(e}^{2}{/2\mathrm{mc}}^{2}){\mathbf{A}}^{2}$ is added to the $(e/mc)\mathbf{P}\ensuremath{\cdot}\mathbf{A},$ the result becomes reasonable. The case of single lattice layer is studied in detail. Different features of statistical properties of the superfluorescence are shown as compared with that of atom aggregate. Double and triple lattice-layer cases are also studied to show the effect of coupling between the excitons of different wave vectors.

Non-Linear Polaritons by Frenkel Excitons

Masahiro Inoue

By using the model of two level atoms and the boson description of the Frenkel excitons, the dispersion relation of the polariton for intense radiation field is investigated. It is shown that the quenching effect of the dipole moment and the effect of the exciton-exciton interaction modify the dispersion curve significantly. The possibility of the self-induced transparency of a pulse wave is examined by taking into account the polariton effect, and a negative answer is obtained.

Self-Induced Transparency in Excitons

V. Krishan, S. Krishan

The interaction of intense coherent light with Frenkel excitons has been studied for investigating the self-induced transparency. Some nonlinear effects neglected before have been included. It is found that the frequency spectrum consistent with the pulse propagation is wider by two orders of magnitude compared with the previous result.
