The recent progress and state-of-art applications in physics Quantum Communication

Xiaojing Su, Zixuan Zhu

Quantum communication is an emerging interdisciplinary discipline that combines classical telecommunication and quantum mechanics. This paper discusses the recent progress of quantum communication in terms of the basic theoretical framework of quantum communication technology, optical devices, state-of-the-art applications. Based on the analysis, quantum communication technology research hotspots mainly involve quantum key distribution, quantum confidential communication, quantum invisible transmission, quantum entanglement, quantum cryptography, etc., which exhibits an increasingly rich trend. In addition, the limitations of the quantum communication are demonstrated from the perspective of practical applications. Afterwards, the future prospects of quantum communication technology are proposed accordingly. These results reveal that quantum communication applications are promising and are moving toward practicality.

Quantum communication is based on a number of novel ideas. It is propelled forward by intriguing physics and associated disciplines such as superposition, entanglement, quantum tunneling, etc. This necessitates acquiring new skills ranging from physics, programming, computer science, communication engineering, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering. The first applications have already reached market segments, and laboratories in universities are working on and developing advanced quantum networks, but the majority of the updates are yet to come. The quantum network is a new scientific field that is expected to become one of the core networking technologies in the future. In this research work, the fundamentals of quantum mechanics, the principles underlying it, and the progress made thus far in quantum computing and quantum communicationare discussed.

The scheme of quantum dense coding in three-dimensional spaces

Yixiao Li

Abstract Quantum communication is a new emerging inter-discipline in which classical communication theory and quantum mechanics are intertwined. Among them, the utilization of quantum entangled state properties is fundamental to the realization of quantum communication. In this way, we can ensure the security and confidentiality of information during transmission based on a new communication scheme, i.e., a quantum dense coding scheme. It enables the transmission of two bits of classical information by transmitting only one qubit. In the past decades, the scheme has attracted the attention of many researchers because of its promising development. In this paper, on top of quantum mechanics, we first review the two-dimensional dense coding scheme and analyze the process implemented by the above scheme. Then it is successfully extended to higher dimensions (three dimensions), predicting the possibility of implementation in more than two dimensions. Finally, the importance of the maximally entangled state for the transmission of this scheme is briefly explained.

Research Directions in Quantum Cryptography

Rajni Goel, Moses Garuba, Anteneh Girma

Quantum cryptography is an approach to securing communications by applying the phenomena of quantum physics. Unlike traditional classical cryptography, which uses mathematical techniques to restrict eavesdroppers, quantum cryptography is focused on the physics of information. Quantum cryptography provides secure communication, whose security depends only on the validity of quantum theory, i.e., it is guarantied directly by the laws of physics. This is a substantial difference from any classical cryptographic techniques. This article summarizes the current state of quantum cryptography and provides potential extensions of its feasibility as a mechanism for securing existing communication systems

Quantum Communication: Concept, Applications, and Future Outlook

Tanya Rastogi, Vikas Hassija, Vikas Saxena

With the emergence of Quantum mechanics arrived the prospect of further development in technology. New areas of research and development came into the picture, one of them being Quantum communication. In 1991, the first protocol of Quantum cryptography and quantum non-duality attracted physicists, mathematicians, and computer scientists to explore the mysterious ways of the quantum world. Since then, quantum communication has evolved to an astonishing extent. Ultra-high-speed internet, computational power, optimization, and security have paved the way for innumerable possibilities ahead. This survey intends to investigate the concepts and applications of quantum communication. In this review article, we try to give an idea of quantum communication background by shedding light on polarization and entanglement, following which, we give a brief survey of its applications such as quantum teleportation, quantum key distribution, secure direct communication, and quantum memories. The study concludes with a discussion on the future outlook of this emerging paradigm.
