Effect of spontaneously generated coherence on transient evolution of LWI gain in an open Ladder type system

Yanling Yang, Lei Wang, Liu Zhong-Bo +3 more

The effect of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) on transient evolution of gain of lasing without inversion (LWI) and modulation roles of the injection rate ratio and exit rate on SGC-dependent gain in an open Ladder type three level system are studied by using the numerical solution of the density matrix motion equation of the system. It was shown that: variation of SGC strength will make the transient and final stationary gains having a considerable changing; when incoherent pumping presents, LWI gain increases with the ratio of injection rates and exit rate decreasing, however, when incoherent pumping is absent, the case is just the opposite; by choosing suitable values of SGC strength, the injection rate ratio and exit rate, we can obtain the largest transient and final stationary gain.

Effects of relative phase on transient evolution in an open resonant ladder-type atomic system

Yanling Yang, Liu Zhong-Bo, Lei Wang +2 more

In an open ladder-type resonant atomic system, variation in relative phase between probe and driving fields does not affect the transient evolution of populations, but it has remarkable effects on gain and dispersion of the probe field. No matter whether an incoherent pump is present or absent, transient and stationary gains without inversion (GWI) always can be obtained by choosing an appropriate value of the relative phase. When the incoherent pump is absent, the values of transient and stationary GWIs are much larger and the time interval required to reach the stationary value is longer than those when the incoherent pump is present. Varying the exit rate and the ratio between injection rates can obviously change the phase-dependent GWI. In addition, in the transient evolution process, the phenomenon of high dispersion (refractive index) without absorption occurs at some values of relative phase. In the corresponding closed system, the stationary GWI can be obtained by choosing an appropriate value of relative phase only when incoherent pump exists, moreover the gain is smaller than that in the open system.

Effects of modulation of atomic injection and exit rate on spatial evolution of phase-dependent lasing without inversion gain and intensity in an open V-type system

The propagation effect in an open V-type three-level atomic system with spontaneously generated coherence is studied by numerical calculation. The results show that changing the relative phase between the probe and driving field has an important effect on variations of gain and intensity of lasing without inversion (LWI) with propagation distance, i.e. spatial evolution; variation of ratio (S) between the atomic injection rate and atomic exit rate (r0) has a remarkable modulation role in phase-dependent spatial evolution. In a certain range of S (r0), with value of S (r0) increasing, LWI gain and intensity increase and the propagation distance needed for reaching an intensity maximum value becomes longer; In a corresponding closed system, the maxima of LWI gain, intensity and the propagation distance along which the gain can be produced are smaller than in an open system. The Doppler effect also has an obvious influence on spatial evolutions of LWI gain and intensity, values of LWI gain and intensity are smaller in the presence of Doppler effect than in the absence of Doppler effect.
