Abstract

The propagation effect in an open V-type three-level atomic system with spontaneously generated coherence is studied by numerical calculation. The results show that changing the relative phase between the probe and driving field has an important effect on variations of gain and intensity of lasing without inversion (LWI) with propagation distance, i.e. spatial evolution; variation of ratio (S) between the atomic injection rate and atomic exit rate (r0) has a remarkable modulation role in phase-dependent spatial evolution. In a certain range of S (r0), with value of S (r0) increasing, LWI gain and intensity increase and the propagation distance needed for reaching an intensity maximum value becomes longer; In a corresponding closed system, the maxima of LWI gain, intensity and the propagation distance along which the gain can be produced are smaller than in an open system. The Doppler effect also has an obvious influence on spatial evolutions of LWI gain and intensity, values of LWI gain and intensity are smaller in the presence of Doppler effect than in the absence of Doppler effect.

Influence of SGC on propagation effect in an open V-type three-level system

In this paper we study the influence of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) on propagation effect and the modulation role of the atomic exit rate(r0)and ratio(S) of the atomic injection rates on the SGC-dependent propagation effect in an open V-type three-level lasing without inversion(LWI) system with Doppler broadening,by using the calculation results of the density matrix motion equations and the propagation equations of the driving and probe fields,in order to get larger LWI gain and intensity of the probe field. It is shown that with propagation distance increasing,LWI gain and Rabi frequency(intensity) of the probe field first increase and then decrease, while the Rabi frequency(intensity) of the driving field decreases monotonously;LWI gain and Rabi frequency(intensity) of the probe field increase with SGC strength(measured by θ) increasing. When θ=π,we can obtain the largest LWI gain and Rabi frequency(intensity) of the probe field;in the case with SGC,we can get much larger LWI gain and Rabi frequency(intensity) of the probe field than those in the case without SGC.In certain value ranges of r0 and S,LWI gain and Rabi frequency(intensity) of the probe field increase with r0 and S increasing.By choosing proper values of γ0 and S,in the open system we can obtain much higher LWI gain and Rabi frequency(intensity) of the probe field than those in the corresponding closed system.

Modulation of atomic exit and injection rates on the phase-dependent gain without inversion in a Doppler broadened open four-level system

刘中波, 贾克宁, 梁颖 +2 more

It is shown that in a Doppler broadened open N-type four-level atomic system with spontaneously generated coherence (SGC), the gain without inversion (GWI) is very sensitive to the variation of the relative phase between the probe field and the driving field; the atomic exit rate (R0) and the ratio (S) of the atomic injection rates have a considerable modulation effect on the phase-dependent GWI. GWI first increases and then decreases with R0 increasing; in a certain value range of S, GWI increases monotonically with S increasing; by adjusting the values of R0 and S, in an open system a much larger GWI can be obtained than in the corresponding closed system [2011 Phys. Rev. A 83 043805]. The modulation effects of R0 and S on the phase-dependent GWI in the case with the counter-propagating probe and driving fields are stronger than those in the co-propagating case, GWI in the co-propagating case is much larger than that in the counter-propagating case.

This paper studies the propagation effect in a closed lambda-type three-level atomic system with Doppler broadening. It is shown that, Doppler broadening due to atomic motion and propagation effect associated with driving field depletion along the active medium decreases obviously the gain and output of the lasing without inversion (LWI); the relative phase between the probe and driving fields has a remarkable modulation role to the propagation effect on LWI when Doppler broadening presents; by choosing suitable value of the relative phase, we can get the largest gain and output of LWI.

Phase control of gain and dispersion in an open V-type system

Xuejun Fan, J. J. Li, Shufen Tian +4 more

The control role of the relative phase between the probe and driving fields on gain, dispersion and populations in an open V-type three-level system with spontaneously generated coherence is studied. The result shows that by adjusting the value of the relative phase, the transformation between lasing with inversion and lasing without inversion (LWI) can be realized and high dispersion (refractive index) without absorption can be obtained. The shape and value range of the dispersion curve are similar to those of the gain curve, and this similarity is closely related to the relative phase. The effects of the atomic exit and injection rates and the incoherent pump rate on the control role of the relative phase are also analysed. It is found easier to get LWI by adjusting the value of the relative phase using the open system rather than the closed system, and using an incoherent pump rather than without using the incoherent pump. Moreover the open system can give a larger LWI gain than the closed system.
