Phase Transfer in Time-Delayed Interferometry with Nuclear Resonant Scattering

Yuji Hasegawa, Yoshitaka Yoda, Koichi Izumi +4 more

In x-ray interferometry accompanying nuclear resonant scattering with some time delay, interference was observed under the condition that a phase shifter was set in front of a nuclear scatterer. The observed interference pattern clarified that the phase information is transferred to the reemitted beam through the intermediate state in nuclear resonance. A storing of phase information in time-delayed scattering is discussed in a system consisting of a quantized radiation field combined with a nucleus state.

X-ray quantum-eraser setup for time-energy complementarity

Jonas Gunst, Adriana Pálffy

A quantum-eraser setup exploiting the time-energy complementarity relation in the x-ray regime is investigated theoretically. The starting point is the interference process between x-ray quanta driving two nuclear hyperfine transitions in a nuclear forward-scattering setup. We show that which-way information can be obtained by marking the scattering paths with orthogonal polarization states, thus leading to the disappearance of the interference pattern. In turn, erasure of the which-way information leads to the reappearance of the interference fringes. We put forward two schemes using resonant scattering off nuclear targets and design which-way marking procedures to realize the quantum-eraser setup for x-ray quanta.

Quantum simulation of nuclear inelastic scattering

Weijie Du, James P. Vary, Xingbo Zhao +1 more

We present a time-dependent quantum algorithm for nuclear inelastic scattering in the time-dependent basis function on qubits approach. This algorithm aims to quantum simulate a subset of the nuclear inelastic scattering problems that are of physical interest in which the internal degrees of freedom of the reaction system are excited by time-dependent external interactions. We expect that our algorithm will enable an exponential speedup in simulating the dynamics of the subset of the inelastic scattering problems, which would also be advantageous for the applications to more complicated scattering problems. For a demonstration problem, we solve for the Coulomb excitation of the deuteron, where the quantum simulations are performed with IBM Qiskit.
