Study on the effects of chirped laser pulse on the coherent population transfer and autoionization

Abstract

The high laser intensity is needed in traditional photoionization which shows intensive Rabi oscillations of population. The using of chirped laser pulse can restrain the Rabi oscillations and realize high efficiency of photoionization. This idea should be useful in the study of coherent transfer of population.

Population transfer via an autoionizing state with temporally delayed chirped laser pulses

Emmanuel Paspalakis, P. L. Knight

We study the possibility of transferring population between two bound atomic or molecular states via an autoionizing state. Conditions for efficient transfer are given and the effects of the AC Stark shifts, the Fano parameters and the incoherent channels of ionization are explored. An adiabatic analytic solution which helps in the understanding of the behaviour of the system is also given. Efficient transfer is realized by using both a counterintuitive pulse sequence and concurrent laser pulses.

Efficiency and robustness of coherent population transfer with intense, chirped laser pulses

Vladimir S. Malinovsky, Jeffrey L. Krause

We discuss electronic population transfer in diatomic molecules. By analyzing time-dependent wave packets on electronic potential-energy surfaces, we investigate the efficiency and robustness of population transfer with intense, chirped laser pulses. Recently, the magnitude of the population transfer was observed to have a remarkable dependence on the sign of the chirp [J. Cao, C. J. Bardeen, and K. R. Wilson, Phys. Rev. Lett. 80, 1406 (1998)]. In this work we explain the reason for this asymmetry, and show how the frequency detuning, intensity, and chirp rate affect the results. In particular, we demonstrate efficient, robust population transfer for both positive and negative chirps. A Landau-Zener model of multiple avoided crossings is invoked to model the results.

Ultrafast population transfer in a three-level system driven by the chirped Gauss femtosecond pulse

Fan Xi-jun

The ultrafast particle population transfer in a ■-type three-level atomic system driven by linearly polarized chirped Gauss femtosecond laser pulse is investigated by using numerical solution of the Schrdinger equation without the rotating wave approximation(RWA).It is shown that the population transfer is mainly determined by the Rabi frequency(intensity) of the driving laser field and chirp rate, and the ratio of two dipole moments and the pulse width also have obvious effect on the population transfer.By choosing suitable values of the above parameters, nearly complete population transfer(99.6%) can be realized.

Excitation of Potassium Atoms in Frequency-chirped sine Laser Pulses

Xiaotian Guo

The feature of coherent population transfer of Rydberg potassium atom in frequency-chirped sine laser pulses is studied by using time-dependent multilevel approach(TDML).The calculation result indicates that the period of population oscillation is twice as long as the time delay of frequency-chirped sine laser pulses, using the appropriate chirped speed can enhance the rate of population transfer.

Coherent population transfer with chirped few-cycle laser pulses in an excited-doublet four-level system

Weifeng Yang, Shangqing Gong, Yueping Niu +1 more

The behavior of population transfer in an excited-doublet four-level system driven by linear polarized few-cycle ultrashort laser pulses is investigated numerically. It is shown that almost complete population transfer can be achieved even when the adiabatic criterion is not fulfilled. Moreover, the robustness of this scheme in terms of the Rabi frequencies and chirp rates of the pulses is explored.

Excitation of lithium atoms and population trapping induced by single frequency-chirped laser pulses

Wu Su

Using the time-dependent multilevel approach (TDML),we have calculated the coherent population transfer among the quantum states of lithium atom with different frequency-chirped laser pulses. The result shows that the population is very sensitive to the parameters of laser pulse, the population can be completely transferred to the target state and be trapped there by changing the parameters of the laser pulse.
