Direct production of three-color polarization entanglement for continuous variable

Abstract

The direct generation of discrete-variable three-photon polarization entanglement has been recently demonstrated [Nat. Photonics8, 801 (2014)10.1038/nphoton.2014.218NPAHBY1749-4885]. Here, we propose a feasible scheme to generate continuous-variable (CV) three-color polarization entangled states of light in a deterministic way. The method initially prepares a tripartite quadrature entanglement based on two cascaded nondegenerate optical parametric oscillators. The entangled modes are then coupled, respectively, with three strong coherent optical beams on polarized beam splitters, leading to the generation of the three-color CV polarization entanglement. The polarization entanglement is then verified by inseparability criterion and positive partial transposition criterion. Additionally, optimal parameters in practical conditions are obtained through numerical simulations, which could provide useful guidance for experimental implementations. The demonstrated CV three-color polarization entanglement is suitable in quantum information processing tasks relying on the direct interaction between spin of atoms and polarization of light.

Experimental generation of tripartite polarization entangled states of bright optical beams

Liang Wu, Zhihui Yan, Yanhong Liu +4 more

The multipartite polarization entangled states of bright optical beams directly associating with the spin states of atomic ensembles are one of the essential resources in the future quantum information networks, which can be conveniently utilized to transfer and convert quantum states across a network composed of many atomic nodes. In this letter, we present the experimental demonstration of tripartite polarization entanglement described by Stokes operators of optical field. The tripartite entangled states of light at the frequency resonant with D1 line of Rubidium atoms are transformed into the continuous variable polarization entanglement among three bright optical beams via an optical beam splitter network. The obtained entanglement is confirmed by the extended criterion for polarization entanglement of multipartite quantized optical modes.

Experimental generation of multipartite entanglement for continuous variables and its application in quantum communication

Kunchi Peng, Jietai Jing, Jing Zhang +2 more

Quantum entanglement shared by more than two partites is the essential bases for developing quantum communication networks and quantum computation. The multipartite entanglement of continuous variables can be generated by distributing or combining squeezed states of light using linear optics. We experimentally obtained a tripartite entangled state of bright optical field by means of a nondegenerate optical parametric amplifier (NOPA) and optical beam-splitters. The NOPA is operated in the state of parametric deamplification by locking the relative phase between the pump laser and the injected seed wave to (2n+1)π, so the generated Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) beam for continuous variables is an entangled state of light with the quantum correlation of phase quadratures and the quantum anticorrelation of amplitude quadratures [1]. The output EPR beam consists of two frequency-degenerate optical modes with horizontal and vertical polarizations which are distributed to three parties with two linear beam-splitters. We have theoretically and experimentally demonstrated the three parties are in a tripartite entangled state with three-mode “position” (amplitude quadrature) correlation and relative “momentum” (phase quadrature) correlation [2]-[4]. The obtained GHZ-like state is a fully inseparable tripartite continuous-variables state violating the three inequalities used for the criterion of the inseparability [5][6]. The controlled dense coding quantum communication is experimentally accomplished by exploiting the tripartite entanglement. The three entangled modes are sent to a sender (Alice), a receiver (Bob) and a controller (Claire), respectively. The information transmission capacity of the quantum channel between Alice and Bob is controlled by Claire. The channel capacity completed under Claire’s help is always larger than that without her help.

THREE-COLOR CONTINUOUS-VARIABLE ENTANGLEMENT DIRECTLY PRODUCED IN AN OPTICAL SUPERLATTICE

Youbin Yu, Zhongtao Shi, H. T. WANG +8 more

The three-color continuous-variable entanglement directly produced by a cascaded nonlinear process in an optical superlattice was investigated theoretically. This cascaded nonlinear process can be realized by using quasi-phase-matching technique in a quasiperiodic superlattice. In the first step, signal- and idle-beams can be generated by a parametric down-conversion. Then, the third beam can be obtained through sum-frequency of idle and pump. The degree of quadrature phase amplitude correlations between the three modes was discussed by a sufficient inseparability criterion with a single inequality for continuous-variable entanglement.

Continuous-variable three-color tripartite entangled state generated by a non-degenerate optical parameter oscillator

Yan Zhi-Hui, Xiaojun Jia, Changde Xie +1 more

The quantum correlations between the output signal, the output idler and the reflected pump fields generated by non-degenerate optical parametric oscillator operating above the oscillation threshold are theoretically calculated with the semi-classical formulae. According to the multipartite entanglement criteria for the continuous variables, proposed by P. van Loock and A. Furusawa, the calculated results prove the existence of the quantum correlations between the amplitude and the phase quadrature for the three optical fields, i. e. they form a tripartite entangled state. We numerically calculate the dependence of the entanglement on the physical parameters of the optical oscillator and find the optimum operating conditions of the oscillator to produce the three-color tripartite entangled state, which provide the direct references for the design of the continuous variable multipartite entanglement generation systems.

Experimental Demonstration of Continuous Variable Polarization Entanglement

Warwick P. Bowen, Nicolas Treps, Roman Schnabel +1 more

We report the experimental transformation of quadrature entanglement between two optical beams into continuous variable polarization entanglement. We extend the inseparability criterion proposed by Duan et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 84, 2722 (2000)]] to polarization states and use it to quantify the entanglement. We propose an elaboration utilizing two quadrature entangled pairs for which all three Stokes operators between a pair of beams are entangled.

Deterministic quantum entanglement among multiple quantum nodes

Yanhong Liu, Liang Wu, Zhihui Yan +2 more

Quantum entanglement is a significant quantum resource, which plays a central role in quantum communication. For realizing quantum information network, it is important to establish deterministic quantum entanglement among multiple spatial-separated quantum memories, and then the stored entanglement is transferred into the quantum channels for distributing and transmitting the quantum information at the user-control time. Firstly, we introduce the scheme of deterministic generation polarization squeezed state at 795 nm. A pair of quadrature amplitude squeezed optical fields are prepared by two degenerate optical parameter amplifiers pumped by a laser at 398 nm, and then the polarization squeezed state of light appears by combining the generated two quadrature amplitude squeezed optical beams on a polarizing beam splitter. Secondly, we present the experimental demonstration of tripartite polarization entanglement described by Stokes operators of optical field. The quadrature tripartite entangled states of light corresponding to the resonance with D1 line of rubidium atoms are transformed into the continuous-variable polarization entanglement via polarization beam splitter with three bright local optical beams. Finally, we propose the generation, storage and transfer of deterministic quantum entanglement among three spatially separated atomic ensembles. By the method of electromagnetically induced transparency light-matter interaction, the optical multiple entangled state is mapped into three distant atomic ensembles to build the entanglement among three atomic spin waves. Then, the quantum noise of entanglement stored in the atomic ensembles is transferred to the three space-seperated quadrature entangled light fields through three quantum channels. The existence of entanglement among the three released beams verifies that the system has the ability to maintain the multipartite entanglement. This protocol realizes the entanglement among three distant quantum nodes, and it can be extended to quantum network with more quantum nodes. All of these lay the foundation for realizing the large-scale quantum network communication in the future.
