Abstract

Entangled state and entanglement have important action in quantum computation and quantum communication. In this paper,we consider the quantum pure state, show its properties when time reversal transformation is used, and study the representation of corresponding density matrix in Hilbert-Schmidt space. Finally we give a geometrical interpretation for entanglement.

CLASSICAL TENSORS AND QUANTUM ENTANGLEMENT I: PURE STATES

Paolo Aniello, Jesús Clemente-Gallardo, Giuseppe Marmo +1 more

The geometrical description of a Hilbert space associated with a quantum system considers a Hermitian tensor to describe the scalar inner product of vectors which are now described by vector fields. The real part of this tensor represents a flat Riemannian metric tensor while the imaginary part represents a symplectic two-form. The immersion of classical manifolds in the complex projective space associated with the Hilbert space allows to pull-back tensor fields related to previous ones, via the immersion map. This makes available, on these selected manifolds of states, methods of usual Riemannian and symplectic geometry. Here, we consider these pulled-back tensor fields when the immersed submanifold contains separable states or entangled states. Geometrical tensors are shown to encode some properties of these states. These results are not unrelated with criteria already available in the literature. We explicitly deal with some of these relations.

Quantum entanglement criterion based on extended complex plane

Guangrong Liu

Abstract The state space of quantum system is a Hilbert space with complex inner product. The two states quantum system is called a qubit. Its quantum state gives different geometric representations. The density matrix of a quantum state can describe all the information of a quantum system. In particular, the representation of quantum pure states by means of extended complex plane is given. On this basis, combined with the matrix representation of the quantum states of the composite system, the criteria for quantum entanglement and separability are studied. Finally, the measurement method of quantum pure state entanglement is given.

Classification and Quantification of Entangled Bipartite Qutrit Pure States

Feng Pan, Guoying Lu, Jerry Paul Draayer

A complete analysis of entangled bipartite qutrit pure states is carried out based on a simple entanglement measure. An analysis of all possible extremally entangled pure bipartite qutrit states is shown to reduce, with the help of SLOCC transformations, to three distinct types. The analysis and the results should be helpful for finding different entanglement types in multipartite pure state systems. PACS: 03.67.-a; 03.67.Mn; 03.65.Ud; 03.65.Bz Quantum entanglement is an important resource to be implemented in quantum information processing and quantum communication protocols. [1] The interests in studying multi-dimensional entangled states come from both the foundations of quantum mechanics and the development of new protocols in quantum communication. For example, it was shown that maximally entangled states of two quantum systems in a high-dimensional Hilbert space, qudits, violate local realism stronger than qubits, and entangled qudits are less affected by noise than entangled qubits. [2,3] In quantum cryptography [4], the use of entangled qutrits [4,5] or qudits [6,7] instead of qubits is more secure against eavesdropping attacks. Furthermore, the protocols for quantum teleportation or for quantum cryptography, work best with maximally entangled states. All these facts motivate the development of techniques to generate entangled states among quantum systems in higher dimensional Hilbert space with a good quality of entanglement.

Density Matrices

Reinhold A. Bertlmann, Nicolai Friis

Abstract In this chapter we discuss statistical mixtures of pure quantum states, resulting in so-called mixed states, and their representation using density operators. The properties of density operators for pure and mixed states are analysed and we examine their time evolution governed by the Liouville-von Neumann equation. As particular examples of interest we consider the density operators for thermal states, focusing on harmonic oscillators and the application of this model to calculate the average photon number for the modes of the electromagnetic field at thermal equilibrium. We then turn to two-level systems, or qubits, which are of particular relevance in quantum information theory and we inspect the geometry of the state space of density operators as a convex subspace of the Hilbert-Schmidt space. Finally, we take a closer look at density operators for bipartite systems which forms the mathematical basis for considering entanglement in later chapters.

An introduction to the theory of quantum entanglement

Fei Shao -

Quantum entangled states play very important roles in quantum information processing, such as quantum teleportation, dense coding, error correction, cryptography, and computation. The theory of entanglement mainly concerns the characterization of quantum entanglement and the classification of quantum states,as well as its applications in quantum information processing. We present some basic concepts and results, including:the relationship between locality and reality in quantum mechanics and Bell inequalities, and that between Bell inequalities and the separability of quantum states;the definition of separability for pure and mixed quantum states, and some separability criteria such as the positive map approach, positive partial transpose, reduction criterion, realignment, entanglement witnesses, and the covariance matrix approach and local uncertainty relations;some entanglement measures such as the entanglement of formation, concurrence, relative entropy, negativity, tangle, entanglement of assistance, and their estimation;the change in entanglement when the physical system evolves or undergoes interaction with the environment.
