Abstract

We report the first experimental generation of bright frequency-degenerate EPR beams with a type II OPO. Degeneracy is obtained by introducing a birefringent plate inside the cavity, resulting in phase locking. EPR-correlation is characterized by homodyne detection.

Levels of Quantum Correlations in the Continuous Variable Regime: Review and Experimental Illustrations with OPOs

Virginia D’Auria, G. Keller, Julien Laurat +5 more

We discuss different levels of quantum correlations in the continuous variable regime and illustrate them by means of experimental results with an optical parametric oscillators. More specifically, we report the first experimental generation of bright frequency‐degenerate EPR beams with a type II OPO. Degeneracy is obtained by introducing a birefringent plate inside the cavity, resulting in phase locking. Correlation is characterized by homodyne detection.

Experimental demonstration of frequency-degenerate bright EPR beams with a self-phase-locked OPO

G. Keller, Virginia D’Auria, Nicolas Treps +3 more

We report the first experimental observation of bright EPR beams produced by a type-II optical parametric oscillator operating above threshold at frequency degeneracy. The degenerate operation is obtained by introducing a birefringent plate inside the cavity resulting in phase locking. After filtering the pump noise, which plays a critical role, continuous-variable EPR correlations between the orthogonally polarized signal and idler beams are demonstrated.

Experimental investigation of amplitude and phase quantum correlations in a type II optical parametric oscillator above threshold: from nondegenerate to degenerate operation

Julien Laurat, Laurent Longchambon, Claude Fabre +1 more

We describe a stable type II optical parametric oscillator operated above threshold that provides 9.7 +/- 0.5 dB (89%) of quantum noise reduction on the intensity difference of the signal and idler modes. We also report the first experimental study, to our knowledge, by homodyne detection of the generated bright two-mode state in the case of frequency-degenerate operation obtained by the introduction of a birefringent plate inside an optical cavity.

Compact Source of EPR Entanglement and Squeezing at Very Low Noise Frequencies

Julien Laurat, T. Coudreau, G. Keller +2 more

We report on the experimental demonstration of strong quadrature EPR entanglement and squeezing at very low noise sideband frequencies produced by a single type-II, self-phase-locked, frequency degenerate optical parametric oscillator below threshold. The generated two-mode squeezed vacuum state is preserved for noise frequencies as low as 50 kHz. Designing simple setups able to generate non-classical states of light in the kHz regime is a key challenge for high sensitivity detection of ultra-weak physical effects such as gravitational wave or small beam displacement.

Quadrature squeezing and entanglement in a self phase-locked Optical Parametric Oscillator

We report on an experiment using an OPO self phase locked via a birefringent waveplate placed inside the cavity emitting signal and idler beams which are entangled and/or squeezed depending on the waveplate parameters.

Full characterization of bipartite entangled states by means of a single homodyne detector

Virginia D’Auria, Salvatore Antonio Fornaro, A. Porzio +2 more

The authors address the complete experimental characterization of bipartite Gaussian entangled states. Continuous-wave (CW) entangled light beams are generated by a frequency degenerate type-II optical parametric oscillator (OPO) below threshold and their covariance matrix (CM) is fully reconstructed by using a novel scheme that involves a single homodyne detector.
