Abstract

The influence of electron-phonon interactions on third-harmonic generation in a square quantum well is investigated. The first- and third-harmonic generation coefficient is obtained by using compact-density-matrix approach and iterative method, and the numerical results are presented for a GaAs square quantum well. The results show that the third-harmonic generation coefficient is obviously enhanced after considering the influence of electron-phonon interactions.

ELECTRON–PHONON INTERACTION EFFECTS ON THIRD-HARMONIC GENERATION IN CYLINDRICAL QUANTUM WIRES

Youbin Yu, Kangxian Guo

The influence of electron–phonon interaction on third-harmonic generation in cylindrical quantum wires are investigated. The third-harmonic generation coefficient is obtained using compact-density-matrix approach and iterative method, and the numerical results are presented for GaAs cylindrical quantum wires. The results show that the third-harmonic generation coefficient is greatly enhanced after taking into consideration the influence of electron–phonon interaction. It is about thirty times larger than that obtained by just considering electron states when electron–phonon resonance is met.

The second and third-harmonic generation of modified Gaussian quantum dots under influence of polaron effects

Reza Khordad, Hossein Bahramiyan

In this paper, we have studied the effect of electron–phonon (e–p) interaction on the second harmonic generation (SHG) and third harmonic generation (THG) of modified Gaussian quantum dots within the framework of the compact density matrix approach and iterative method. We have obtained the energy eigenvalues and their corresponding eigenfunctions of the system without e–p interaction and under the influence of electron–LO phonon, electron–SO phonon, and electron–LO + SO phonon interaction. It is found that the effect of the electron–phonon interaction has a great influence on the second and third harmonic generation of the system. The effect of electron–SO phonon on the SHG and THG is greater than the electron–LO phonon. The electron–LO + SO-phonon interaction has the largest contribution to the SHG and THG.

Influence of Electron-phonon Interaction on the Optical Absorptions in Square Tangent Quantum Wells

Zhou Li-pin

The optical absorptions coefficients with considering the electron-phonon interaction were theoretically studied in square tangent quantum wells. The wave functions and energy levels are described in square tangent quantum wells by perturbation theory when the polaron effects were considered, and analytic expression for the linear and the third-order nonlinear optical absorption coefficients was obtained by the compact density-matrix method and the iterative procedure. The numerical results for typical GaAs/AlGaAs material showed that the electron-phonon interaction had great influence on the linear, nonlinear and total optical absorption, meanwhile the absorption saturation phenomenon was more obvious than the one without considering the polaron effects. Moreover, the changes of the total optical absorptions increased with the well width b decreasing or the well depth V0 increasing when the electron-phonon interaction was considered.

Excitonic effects on the third-harmonic generation in parabolic quantum dots

Guanghui Wang, Kangxian Guo

Excitonic effects on the third-harmonic-generation coefficient for disclike parabolic quantum dots are studied, and an analytic formula for the third-harmonic-generation coefficient is obtained by using the compact-density-matrix approach and an iterative method. Numerical results are presented for typical GaAs/AlGaAs parabolic quantum dots. The results show that the third-harmonic-generation coefficient is greatly enhanced because the excitons are localized in the quantum dots - it is over three times that obtained by just considering electron states - and that it is very sensitively dependent on the exciton confinement. In addition, the third-harmonic-generation coefficient is related to the relaxation constant.

Third-Harmonic Generation in Special Parabolic Quantum Wells

You Bin Yu

Third-harmonic generation in a special asymmetric quantum well is investigated. The third-harmonic generation coefficient is carried out by applying compact-density-matrix method. The numerical results are presented for a GaAs/AlGaAs asymmetric quantum well. The very large third-harmonic generation coefficient is obtained in this quantum well. Moreover, the third-harmonic generation coefficient dependents on the quantum well parameters are investigated, respectively.
