Enhancing Quantum Resistance: Entanglement Swapping in Quantum key distribution and blockchain infrastructure

Sakshi Singh, Avdhesh Gupta, Anu Chaudhary

Key negotiation plays an important role in ensuring secure communication channel, and establishes confidentiality between parties. Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) represents an advanced and highly secure method for distributing cryptographic keys between involved parties. Multiple QKD implementation possibilities have led to the upgrading of various QKD protocols. Quantum key distribution involves two types of protocols approaches prepare-and-measure and entanglement based, this paper focuses entanglement-based protocol. Prepare-and-measure protocols are vulnerable to certain attacks and have lower key generation rate as compared to entanglement based protocol. Entanglement is certified as a key element in the arena of quantum information processing, contributing in applications like quantum cryptography, quantum computation and quantum communication. Entanglement leads to the phenomenon known as entanglement swapping, entanglement swapping phenomenon involves parties getting entangled without interacting with each other. This research focuses on the advantages and the security provided by entanglement swapping in quantum key distribution. Blockchain also utilizes key distribution process with the involvement of classical cryptography. Classical cryptography blockchain are not quantum-resistant, blockchain with quantum computing infrastructure are more advance and secure. Implementing entanglement swapping in the infrastructure of blockchain can make the blockchain quantum-resistant to secure communication and transactions. Within this manuscript, we theoretically study the entanglement swapping of Bell states in quantum key distribution and propose an idea of blockchain with entanglement swapping to enhance quantum resistance. This study also explores the employing of entanglement swapping in cloud infrastructure.

Multi-party multi-level quantum key distribution protocol based on entanglement swapping

Yu‐Guang Yang, Wen Qiao-yan, Fu-Chen Zhu +1 more

A multi-party multi-level quantum key distribution protocol based on entanglement swapping is proposed. A perfect complete orthonormal basis of the bi-party three-level systems is first constructed. By using this basis and swapping the entanglement, bi-party quantum key distribution is realized. In addition, three-level can be generalized to multi-level and bi-party to multi-party,i.e., multi-party multi-level quantum key distribution based on entanglement swapping can be achieved. Using entanglement swapping and multi-level key distribution can significantly increase the efficiency of the detection of eavesdropping, the key generation rate and the information flux.

Quantum-Enhanced Cryptographic Key Distribution via Entanglement Swapping

Jincheng Zhang

This paper investigates a novel approach to enhancing cryptographic key distribution using entanglement swapping. Current quantum key distribution (QKD) protocols are often limited by distance due to signal loss and decoherence during the direct transmission of entangled photons. This research proposes a protocol that overcomes these limitations by employing entanglement swapping, effectively extending the range of secure key exchange. The core of the method involves strategically swapping entangled pairs to create correlated states between distant parties, circumventing the need for direct transmission over long distances. Mathematical formulations detailing the protocol's key steps, including the quantum operations and measurement outcomes, are presented. The analysis demonstrates a pathway towards significantly increasing the practical range of QKD systems, offering a potential solution for secure communication over greater distances. The theoretical framework presented here lays the groundwork for future experimental implementations and further optimization of entanglement swapping protocols for enhanced QKD performance.
