Critical dynamics of the one-dimensional Potts model

Abstract

Uses the method developed by Achiam and Kosterlitz (1978) to obtain the dynamical critical exponent of the one-dimensional q-state Potts model. The author finds z=3 (q>2) and z=2 (q=2), thus confirming lower-bound estimates found previously.

Non-universality in the dynamics of the one-dimensional Potts model

P. O. Weir, J. Michael Kosterlitz, Steve Adachi

The authors discuss two recent papers on the dynamics of the one-dimensional Potts model which yield different values of the dynamical critical exponent. They show that in fact there are choices of the transition rates which yield arbitrarily large non-universal exponents.

Dynamics of the one-dimensional Potts model

We consider the q-state Potts model in one dimension for the cases q${=2}^{m}$, m=1,2,3,. . . . The dynamical critical exponent is calculated with use of the real-space renormalization-group method. We find z=2 in the 4- and 8-state models, which agrees with the Ising case, and speculate that this generalizes to any m.

On the critical dynamics of one-dimensional Potts models

Simple physical arguments about the movement of domain walls are used to determine the dependence of the dynamical critical exponent z on the transition rates for the one-dimensional q-state Potts model.

Critical dynamics for one-dimensional models

F. Leyvraz, Naeem Jan

A plausible argument using the concepts of dynamic renormalisation group is used to derive the dynamical exponent z of the one-dimensional q=2, 3 and 4 Potts and four-state clock models. The exact result (z=2) for the Ising model with Glauber dynamics is recovered and in addition the authors find that the q=3, 4 Potts and four-state clock models belong to the same universality class. Moreover they find that z=3.05+or-0.1 for the (q=2) Potts model with Kawasaki dynamics in agreement with the z=4- eta prediction of Halperin, Hohenberg and Ma (1974). A simple qualitative derivation is also given.

Critical dynamics of the two-dimensional Potts model

Eduardo Lage

A dynamical theory for the Potts, model, recently introduced by the author, is applied to the two-dimensional, nearest-neighbour system. A decimation procedure is defined and, in the leading order of the approximations involved, the critical dynamical exponent is obtained for different numbers of Potts states.

Finite-size calculation of the dynamical critical exponent of the three-state Potts model

M. Aydin, M. Cemal Yalabık

The dynamical critical exponent z is calculated using the finite size scaling method for the two-dimensional three-state Potts model with nonconserved dynamics. The value of z is found to be between 2.1-2.3, with the most likely value being 2.2.
