Measurement-induced disturbance and nonequilibrium thermal entanglement in a qutrit-qubit mixed spin XXZ model

Chen, LI ., Shao +3 more

We investigate the dynamics of nonequilibrium thermal quantum correlation of a qutrit-qubit mixed spin system coupled to two bosonic reservoirs at different temperatures using measurement-induced disturbance. The effects of initial states of the spins and temperatures of the reservoirs on measurement-induced disturbance and entanglement are discussed. The results demonstrate that measurement-induced disturbance is more robust than entanglement against the influence of both these factors and there is no sudden death phenomenon for measurement-induced disturbance. The dependences of steady-state measurement-induced disturbance and entanglement on coupling constant and anisotropy parameter are also studied. Steady-state entanglement vanishes for a ferromagnetic qutrit-qubit model, while steady- state measurement-induced disturbance exists for both the antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic cases. Appropriately modulating the coupling constant and anisotropy parameter can strengthen quantum correlation.

Reservoir-mediated spin entanglement in the mean-force Gibbs state

L. A. Williamson, W. McEniery, F. Cerisola +1 more

Two qubits strongly coupled to a common bosonic reservoir can become entangled with each other, despite having no direct interaction. In equilibrium, such coupling-induced coherences can be described by the mean-force Gibbs state. Here we derive approximate, analytic expressions for the two-qubit mean-force Gibbs state, and use these to characterize equilibrium qubit-qubit entanglement mediated by a thermal reservoir. Entanglement, which is highest at lowest temperatures, is a non-monotonic function of the system-reservoir coupling strength. Moreover, we find that broadening the reservoir spectral density beyond a single mode, as is realistic for typical baths, can enhance the qubit entanglement. Our results provide a comprehensive understanding of reservoir-mediated two-qubit entanglement in thermal equilibrium and provide a benchmark to compare with numerical methods, as well as demonstrating the utility of strong system-reservoir coupling as a resource.

Investigating entanglement dynamics with dynamical decoupling together with initial qubit-reservoir correlations

Rifzah Shahid, Amna Qadeer, Ali Raza Mirza

We study the exact entanglement dynamics of two qubits coupled to a common bosonic reservoir through a pure dephasing interaction. We ask how this dynamics changes when the qubits and the reservoir already share correlations before the qubit state is prepared. In that case the system and reservoir first interact for a long time and settle into a joint equilibrium state. Only afterward is the qubit pair projected onto the desired state by a local measurement. For an Ohmic spectral density we obtain the exact reduced two qubit dynamics. Using the Wootters concurrence we show that initial correlations always speed up entanglement sudden death relative to the factorized case, and that this gap grows quadratically with the coupling strength in the weak-to-moderate coupling regime. Finally we show that a symmetric sequence of periodic π pulses applied to both qubits extends the entanglement lifetime close to a factor of seven over the range of pulse numbers studied.
