Selective Tunneling Dynamics of Bosons with Effective Three-Particle Interactions

Abstract

The selective coherent destruction of tunneling (CDT) of ultracold Bose gas with three-particle interactions in a modulated double-well potential is discussed. It is shown that the effects of two- and three-particle interactions on the dynamics of the selective CDT are strongly coupled and the three-particle interactions significantly modify the selective CDT. For weak three-particle interactions, an upper bound of the boson number for realizing the selective CDT exists and the region of boson number for realizing the selective CDT is enlarged (reduced) with repulsive (attractive) three-particle interactions. For strong three-particle interactions, the boson number in the system for realizing the selective CDT not only has an upper bound, but also has a lower bound. The results are confirmed by numerical simulations.

Coherent Destruction of Tunneling .of Bosons with Effective Three-Body Interactions

The tunneling dynamics of dilute boson gases with three-body interactions in a periodically driven double wells are investigated both theoretically and numerically. In our findings, when the system is with only repulsive twobody interactions or only three-body interactions, the tunneling will be suppressed;while in the case of the coupling between two- and three-body interactions, the tunneling can be either suppressed or enhanced.Particularly, when attractive three-body interactions are twice large as repulsive two-body interactions,CDT occurs at isolated points of driving force, which is similar to the linear case.Considering different interaction, the system can experience different transformation from coherent tunneling to coherent destruction of tunneling(CDT).The quasi-energy of the system as the function of the periodically driving force shows a triangular structure, which provides a deep insight into the tunneling dynamics of the system.

Many-body selective destruction of tunneling in a bosonic junction

Stefano Longhi

A scheme for selective coherent destruction of tunneling (CDT) of strongly interacting bosons in a symmetric double-well potential, in which an arbitrarily and a priori prescribed number of bosons are allowed to tunnel from one well to the other one is theoretically proposed. As compared to the many-body CDT scheme recently proposed by Gong, Molina, and H\"anggi [Phys. Rev. Lett. 103, 133002 (2009)] and based on a fast modulation of the self-interaction strength, the method suggested in this work exploits the traditional method of fast modulation of the energy level unbalance between the two wells by an external ac force.

Coherent Destruction of Tunneling of Dipolar Bosonic Gas

Zi-Fa Yu, Ai‐Xia Zhang, Ju-Kui Xue

The tunneling dynamics of a dipolar bosonic gas with repulsive interactions in a periodically driven triple-well are investigated. Because of the coupled effect of long-range dipole-dipole interaction and the short-range of on-site interaction, the increase of the repulsive atomic interactions can either suppress tunneling or enhance tunneling and, thus, the system experiences rich coherent tunneling(CT)-coherent destruction of tunneling (CDT) transitions. In particular, as the repulsive atomic interactions increase, the system can undergo CT-CDT-CT-CDT or CDT-CT-CDT-CT-CDT transitions. This cannot occur in non-dipolar gas, where the increase of the repulsive atomic interaction only suppress tunneling and the system can only undergo CT-CDT transition. We further present a good understanding of the results with the help of the quasi-energy spectrum of the system.

Tunneling of ultracold Bose gases in multiple wells

R. Paredes

We study the dynamics of an ultracold gas of interacting bosons confined in a one-dimensional potential composed of $n$ wells. We derive an effective $N$-particle Hamiltonian for this system that describes the tunneling of particles between adjacent wells and that includes the interactions among the particles within the same well. The problem is discussed in the light of current research on optical lattices. We demonstrate that the effective Hamiltonian gives the possibility of studying the transition from an ideal insulator to a real conductor when the parameters that modulate the interaction and the tunneling of the particles are varied. To show this we numerically solve Schr\"odinger equation for the case of $n=3$ wells. We find that for a given number of particles it is possible to establish a weak- and a strong-interaction regime. In the limit of strong interaction the tunneling term can be neglected. One important result in our analysis is that in the weak-interaction regime the system reaches a stationary state as a result of the loss of coherence in the transport of particles through the wells.

Tunneling Dynamics of Dipolar Bosonic System with Periodically Modulated s -wave Scattering

Zi-Fa Yu, Ju-Kui Xue

Within the mean-field three-site Bose—Hubbard model, the tunneling dynamics of dipolar bosonic gas with a periodically modulation of s-wave scattering is investigated. The system experiences complex and rich coherent tunneling (CT)-coherent destruction of tunneling (CDT) transitions resulting from the correlated effect among the next-neighbor dipole-dipole interaction, the on-site interaction and the modulated s-wave scattering. In particular, The region of the modulated s-wave scattering for generating CT (CDT) is the widest (narrowest) when the on-site interaction and the next-neighbor dipole-dipole interaction have some correlated values, which are closely related to the tunneling energy and the interaction energy of the system. The correlated values for appearing CDT can be theoretically gained from the tunneling energy and the interaction energy of the system.
