Central extensions and realizations of one-dimensional Galilean systems and quantization

Miguel A. Martín, M. A. del Olmo

The unitary irreducible realizations (representations up to a factor) of the maximal non-trivial central extension of the (1 + 1) Galilei group, (1 + 1), are obtained via the linear unitary irreducible representations of its maximal non-trivial central extension, (1 + 1). As an application we construct the Stratonovich - Weyl correspondence, which allows Moyal quantization of classical systems, for two cases of great physical interest: a system in a external variable force field and a variable-mass system.

Enhanced quantum procedures that resolve difficult problems

John R. Klauder

A careful study of the classical/quantum connection with the aid of coherent states offers new insights into various technical problems. This analysis includes both canonical as well as closely related affine quantization procedures. The new tools are applied to several examples including: (1) A quantum formulation that is invariant under arbitrary classical canonical transformations of coordinates; (2) A toy model that for all positive energy solutions has singularities which are removed at the classical level when the correct quantum corrections are applied; (3) A fairly simple model field theory with non-trivial classical behavior that, when conventionally quantized, becomes trivial, but nevertheless finds a proper solution using the enhanced procedures; (4) A model of scalar field theories with non-trivial classical behavior that, when conventionally quantized, becomes trivial, but nevertheless finds a proper solution using the enhanced procedures; (5) A viable formulation of the kinematics of quantum gravity that respects the strict positivity of the spatial metric in both its classical and quantum versions; and (6) A proposal for a non-trivial quantization of [Formula: see text] that is ripe for study by Monte Carlo computational methods. All of these examples use fairly general arguments that can be understood by a broad audience.

Bouncing and cyclic quantum primordial universes and the ordering problem

Isaac Torres, J. C. Fabris, Oliver F Piattella

Abstract In a Bohmian quantum cosmology scenario, we investigate some quantum effects on the evolution of the primordial universe arising from the adoption of an alternative non-trivial ordering to the quantization of the constrained Hamiltonian of a minimally coupled scalar field. The Wheeler–DeWitt equation has a contribution from the change in factor ordering, hence there are new quantum effects. We compare the results between the non-trivial and the trivial ordering cases, showing that the classical limit is valid for both orderings, but new bouncing and cyclic solutions are present in the non-trivial case. Additionally, we show that the non-singular solutions already present in the trivial ordering formalism keep valid.
