Photon Switching using Nonlinear PANDA Ring Resonetor

We propose a new system of an all optical switching system using an optical add/drop filter consisting of two nano ring resonators. The dynamic behavior of dark-bright soliton collision within the modified add/drop optical filter device, which it is known as PANDA ring resonator. By using the dark-bright soliton conversion control within the PANDA ring, the obtained output signals can be attenuated and used to perform the single photon switching, which is capable for security code application. Results obtained have shown that the random binary codes based on a single photon switching can be formed by using the polarized light components, dark and bright solitons, whereas the single photon switching codes can be obtained by using the attenuated dark-bright soliton conversion signals output signals.

Inverted coupled-resonator-induced transparency

Tohru Oishi, Makoto Tomita

The inverted spectral structure of coupled-resonator-induced transparency was experimentally demonstrated using an amplifying optical ring resonator, to which another dark ring resonator was coupled. A nonamplifying spectral window was induced by the dark resonator in an otherwise strongly amplifying spectral region. Within the induced window, sharp anomalous dispersion was expected. Propagation of nearly Gaussian-shaped optical pulses was observed; the pulses propagated through the amplifying medium with a negative delay of $\ensuremath{-}$20.8 ns, without significant amplification, attenuation, or pulse deformation. The inverted induced-transparency system, producing tunable fast light, is a complementary system to traditional induced-transparency systems that produce slow light and could be potentially useful in numerous applications.
