Abstract

Only the field theoretical aspects of quantization are considered. The genaral properties of quantizations, quantization of the dimensional systems, field quantization with bilinear Hamiltonians, and uncoupled oscillators are discussed. (JFP)

Introduction

Jan Dereziński, Christian Gérard

Quantum fields and quantization are concepts that come from quantum physics, the most intriguing physical theory developed in the twentieth century. In our work we would like to describe in a coherent and comprehensive way basic aspects of their mathematical structure. Most of our work is devoted to the simplest kinds of quantum fields and of quantization. We will mostly discuss mathematical aspects of free quantum fields. We will consider the quantization only on linear phase spaces. The reader will see that even within such a restricted scope the subject is rich, involves many concepts and has important applications, both to quantum theory and to pure mathematics. A distinguished role in our work will be played by representations of the canonical commutation and anti-commutation relations . Let us briefly discuss the origin and the meaning of these concepts.

A Generalized Method of Field Quantization

H. S. Green

A method of field quantization is investigated which is more general than the usual methods of quantization in accordance with Bose of Fermi statistics, though these are included in the scheme. The commutation properties and matrix representations of the quantized field amplitudes are determined, and the energy levels of the field are derived in the usual way. It is shown that spin-half fields can be quantized in such a way that an arbitrary finite number of particles can exist in each eigenstate. With the generalized statistics, the interchange of two particles of the same kind may or may not be physically significant, according to the type of interaction by means of which they are created or annihilated. Physical consequences of the assumption that there are particles which obey the generalized statistics are briefly examined.

Unitary Quantization and Para-Fermi Statistics of Order 2

Yu. A. Markov, M. A. Markova, D. M. Gitman

We consider the relationship between the unitary quantization scheme and the para-Fermi statistics of order 2. We propose an appropriate generalization of Green’s ansatz, which has made it possible to transform bilinear and trilinear commutation relations for the creation and annihilation operators for two different para-Fermi fields φ a and φ b into identities. We also propose a method for incorporating para-Grassmann numbers ξ k into the general unitary quantization scheme. For the parastatistics of order 2, a new fact has been revealed: the trilinear relations containing both para-Grassmann variables ξ k and field operators ak and bm are transformed under a certain reversible mapping into unitary equivalent relations in which commutators are replaced by anticommutators, and vice versa. It is shown that this leads to the existence of two alternative definitions of the coherent state for para-Fermi oscillators. The Klein transformation for Green’s components of operators a k and b m is constructed in explicit form, which enabled us to reduce the initial commutation rules for the components to the normal commutation relations for ordinary Fermi fields. We have analyzed a nontrivial relationship between the trilinear commutation relations of the unitary quantization scheme and the so-called Lie supertriple system. The possibility of incorporating the Duffin–Kemmer–Petiau theory into the unitary quantization scheme is discussed briefly.

Quantum field theory of atoms interacting with photons: Foundations

Maciej Lewenstein, Li You, J. Cooper +1 more

We discuss theoretical foundations of the emerging area of quantum-optical studies of many-body systems: a quantum field theory of atoms interacting with photons. This theory is designed to describe quantum-statistical systems of cooled and trapped atoms undergoing spontaneous and stimulated emission processes. Formulated in the framework of the second quantization, this theory accounts fully for quantum-statistical properties of atoms as bosons or fermions. In particular, it applies to a description of the formation of the Bose-Einstein condensate in bosonic systems, as well as the spectroscopy and other quantum optical properties of the Bose-Einstein condensate. We derive the general second quantized Hamiltonian of this theory and discuss in detail various approximations.

Govorkov's unitary quantization and para-Fermi statistics of order two

Yu. A. Markov, Маркова

A connection between a unitary quantization scheme and para-Fermi statistics of order 2 is considered. An appropriate extension of Green's ansatz is suggested. This extension allows one to transform bilinear and trilinear commutation relations for the annihilation and creation operators of two different para-Fermi fields $\phi_{a}$ and $\phi_{b}$ into identity. The way of incorporating para-Grassmann numbers $\xi_{k}$ into a general scheme of uniquantization is also offered. For parastatistics of order 2 a new fact is revealed, namely, the trilinear relations containing both the para-Grassmann variables $\xi_{k}$ and the field operators $a_{k}$, $b_{m}$ under a certain invertible mapping go over into the unitary equivalent relations, where commutators are replaced by anticommutators and vice versa. It is shown that the consequence of this circumstance is the existence of two alternative definitions of the coherent state for para-Fermi oscillators. The Klein transformation for Green's components of the operators $a_{k}$, $b_{m}$ is constructed in an explicit form that enables us to reduce the initial commutation rules for the components to the normal commutation relations of ordinary Fermi fields. A nontrivial connection between trilinear commutation relations of the unitary quantization scheme and so-called Lie-supertriple system is analysed. A brief discussion of the possibility of embedding the Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau theory into the unitary quantization scheme is provided.
