Abstract

We analyse a dynamical swapping of the quantum state in coupled harmonic oscillatros, the result can be applied to the interaction of a single-mode field with atomic ensemble in the weak field case,Similar to the case of electromagnetic induced transparency(EIT),a dynamic polariton is formed. Therefore, the quantum state of the field can be completely mapped on to the atomic medium, and vice versa,Using this dynamical swapping and the adiabatic transfer in the EIT between the field and atomic ensemble,we propose a scheme in which both the quantum and the coherent information can be transferred from one field to another.

Dynamic Polariton and Quantum State Swapping Between an Electromagnetic Field and Atomic Ensemble

We analyse a dynamical swapping of the quantum state in coupled harmonic oscillators. The result can be applied to the interaction of a single-mode field with atomic ensemble in the weak field case. Similar to the case of electromagnetic induced transparency (EIT), a dynamic polariton is formed. Therefore, the quantum state of the field can be completely mapped on to the atomic medium, and vice versa. Using this dynamical swapping and the adiabatic transfer in the EIT between the field and atomic ensemble, we propose a scheme in which both the quantum and the coherent information can be transferred from one field to another.

Adiabatic propagation of quantized light pulses in an atomic medium with the tripod level configuration

I. E. Mazets

We consider adiabatic propagation of a pair of quantized light pulses in a coherently prepared atomic medium with the tripod level configuration. We find that under conditions of electromagnetically induced transparency, two distinct polariton modes are simultaneously formed in the medium. These polaritons, represented by certain coherent superpositions of the quantized fields, have different group velocities; the fast one propagates at essentially the speed of light, while the group velocity of the slow polariton can be dynamically reduced to zero. The state mapping between the electromagnetic field and atomic ensemble is also demonstrated.

Raman adiabatic transfer of optical states in multilevel atoms

J. Appel, Karl-Peter Marzlin, Alexander I. Lvovsky

We analyze electromagnetically induced transparency and light storage in an ensemble of atoms with multiple excited levels (multi-$\ensuremath{\Lambda}$ configuration) which are coupled to one of the ground states by quantized signal fields and to the other one via classical control fields. We present a basis transformation of atomic and optical states which reduces the analysis of the system to that of electromagnetically induced transparency in a regular three-level configuration. We demonstrate the existence of dark state polaritons and propose a protocol to transfer quantum information from one optical mode to another by an adiabatic control of the control fields.

Dynamical Symmetry and Its Applications In Electromagnetically Induced Transparency

Xiong-Jun Liu, Hui Jing, Xin Liu +1 more

We study in detail the interesting dynamical symmetry and its applications in various atomic systems with electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in this paper. By discovering the symmetrical Lie group of various atomic systems, such as single-atomic-ensemble composed of complex $m$-level $(m>3)$ atoms, and $two$-atomic-ensemble and even multi-atomic-ensemble system composed of of $three$-level atoms etc., one can obtain the general definition of dark-state polaritons (DSPs), and then the dark-states of these different systems. The symmetrical properties of the multi-level system and multi-atomic-ensemble system are shown to be dependent on some characteristic parameters of the EIT system. Furthermore, a controllable scheme to generate quantum entanglement between lights or atoms via quantized DSPs theory is discussed and the robustness of this scheme is analyzed by confirming the validity of adiabatic passage conditions in this paper.

Control of photon propagation via electromagnetically induced transparency in lossless media

L. He, Yu-xi Liu, S. Yi +2 more

We study the influence of a lossless material medium on the coherent storage and quantum-state transfer of a quantized probe light in an ensemble of $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$-type atoms. The medium is modeled as uniformly distributed two-level atoms with the same energy level spacing, coupling to a probe light. This coupled system can be simplified to a collection of two-mode polaritons which couple to one transition of the $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$-type atoms. We show that, when the other transition of $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$-type atoms is controlled by a classical light, electromagnetically induced transparency can also occur for the polaritons. In this case the coherent storage and quantum transfer for photon states are achievable through novel dark states with respect to the polaritons. By calculating the corresponding dispersion relation, we find that the ensemble of three-level atoms with $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$-type transitions may serve as quantum memory for it slows or even stops light propagation through the mechanism of electromagnetically induced transparency.

Wigner-Yanse skew information of the system with the electromagnetically induced transparency

Jing Wen Fu, Wanfang Liu, Yujie Zhao

The quantum-information theoretic notation of the Winger-Yanse skew information has been used to analyze the process of information transfer between probe fields and atomic ensemble in the electromagnetically induced transparency. It is well known that the skew information is a well-defined measure that quantifies the amount of the information a quantum state contains. We have calculated the dynamical skew information of the probe fields and the atomic ensemble, and found that the information for the individual atom is dependent of the numbers of the particles and the photons, as well as the state of the probe field. For a sufficiently weak coherent driving field, the dark-state polaritons is a purely atomic state with no photons in the composite system, and the information of the individual atom reaches the maximum value. However, the information of the probe field is not completely transferred into the atomic ensemble.
