Sudden death of entanglement of two atoms interacting with thermal fields

Abstract

We investigate the entanglement dynamics of two initially entangled atoms each interacting with a thermal field. We show that the two entangled atoms become completely disentangled in a finite time and that the lost information cannot return to the atomic system when the mean photon number of the thermal field exceeds a critical value (3.3584), even though the whole system is lossless. Then we study how the detuning between the atomic transition frequency and the field frequency and the disparity between two coupling rates would affect the evolution of the entanglement of the atomic system.

Dynamics of entanglement of atoms with two-photon transitions induced by a thermal field

Eugene K. Bashkirov

In this paper, we investigate the entanglement between two two-level atoms non-resonantly in-teracting with a thermal field of a lossless one-mode resonator via degenerate two-photon transi-tions. On the basis of the exact solution of the time-dependent density matrix we calculate the negativity as a measure of atomic entanglement. We show that for separable initial atomic states a slight atom-field detuning may generate the high amount of atom-atom entanglement. The re-sults also show that for non-resonant atom-field interaction the entanglement induced by nonlin-ear two-photon interaction is smaller than that induced by one-photon interaction in contrast to the resonant interaction situation. For a Bell-type entangled initial atomic state we obtain that if the detuning increases, there is an appreciable decrease in the amplitudes of the negativity oscilla-tions. The results also show that elimination of the sudden death of entanglement for non-resonant two-photon atom-field interaction may take place.

Finite-time disentanglement induced by single-mode thermal field

Feng Han, Yun‐Jie Xia

In this paper, we study the entanglement dynamics of atoms locally coupled to a cavity field. By studying two different models within the framework of cavity QED, we show that the so-called atomic entanglement sudden death always occurs if initially the cavity field is in the thermal state, in clear contrast with that in the vacuum state where the same entanglement decay is in infinite time.

Entanglement in two-atom Tavis-Cummings model with Raman transitions

Eugene K. Bashkirov

An exact solution of the problem of two two-level atoms with degenerate Raman two-photon transitions interacting with one-mode coherent or thermal radiation field in cavity is presented. Asymptotic solution for system state vector is obtained in the approximation of large initial coherent fields. The atom-field is investigated on the basis of the reduced atomic entropy dynamics. The possibility of the system being initially in a pure disentangled state to revive into this state during the evolution process is shown. Conditions and times of disentanglement are derived. The atom-atom entanglement is investigated with using negativity. The possibility of sudden death and birth of atom-atom entanglement is predicted for a coherent field with large mean photon numbers.

Two atoms in dissipative cavities in dispersive limit: entanglement sudden death and long-lived entanglement

Jian-Song Zhang, Ai-Xi Chen, M Abdel-Aty

We investigate the entanglement dynamics and coherence of two two-level atoms interacting with two coherent fields of two spatially separated and dissipative cavities. It is in particular shown that entanglement sudden death is obtained within a short interaction time. However, after a long interaction time a long-lived entanglement is shown; that is, the initial entanglement of two atoms could be partially preserved. In addition, the coherence of the two atoms will not be lost during the evolution.

Control of two-atom entanglement with two thermal fields in coupled cavities

Li-Tuo Shen, Zhen‐Biao Yang, Huai‐Zhi Wu +2 more

The dynamical evolution of a quantum system composed of two coupled cavities, each containing a two-level atom and a single-mode thermal field, is investigated under different conditions. The entanglement between the two atoms is controlled by the hopping strength and the detuning between the atomic transition and the cavities. We find that when the atomic transition is far off-resonant with both the eigenmodes of the coupled-cavity system, the maximally entangled state for the two atoms can be generated with the initial state in which one atom is in the ground state and the other is in the excited state. When both the two atoms are initially in the excited state, the entanglement exhibits periodical sudden birth and death. By choosing appropriate parameter values, the initial maximal entanglement of the two atoms can be frozen. The relation between the concurrence and the cooperative parameter is calculated.

Dynamics of atom-atom entanglement in two-atom model with degenerate two-photon raman transitions

A. Othman, Eugene K. Bashkirov

The exact dynamics of a model consisting of two two-level atoms interacting with the electromagnetic field mode of an ideal resonator through degenerate Raman transitions are found for coherent and thermal field states. The exact solution is used to calculate atom-atom negativity. It is shown that for separable initial states of atoms, their interaction with the resonator field does not lead to the occurrence of atom-atom entanglement. It was found that for the Bell initial states of atoms in the case of a coherent resonator field, the effect of sudden death of entanglement takes place for large average values of the number of photons in the resonator, while in case of thermal noise, this effect is absent for any intensities of the resonator field.
