Forced Time-Dependent Harmonic Oscillators in Non-Commutative Space

Abstract

For the time-dependent harmonic oscillator and generalized harmonic oscillator with or without external forces in non-commutative space, wave functions, and geometric phases are derived using the Lewis—Riesenfeld invariant. Coherent states are obtained as the ground state of the forced system. Quantum fluctuations are calculated too. It is seen that geometric phases and quantum fluctuations are greatly affected by the non-commutativity of the space.

Behavioral Differences of a Time-Dependent Harmonic Oscillator in Commutative Space and Non-Commutative Phase Space

Hadi Sobhani, HASSAN HASSANABADI

In this article, behavioral differences of time-dependent harmonic oscillator in Commutative space and Non-Commutative phase space have been investigated. The considered harmonic oscillator has a time-dependent angular frequency and mass which are function of time. First, the time-dependent harmonic oscillator is studied in commutative space, then similar calculation is done for considered harmonic oscillator in Non-Commutative phase space. During this article method of Lewis–Riesenfeld dynamical invariant has been employed.

Systematic Treatment of General Time-Dependent Harmonic Oscillator in Classical and Quantum Mechanics

H. Kanasugi, Hidehiko Okada

A systematic way of treating a general time-dependent harmonic oscillator in classical and quantum mechanics is given. By a general canonical transformation in classical mechanics, the time-dependent Hamiltonian can be transformed to a time-independent one (the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant), explicitly separating a total time-derivative term. In quantum mechanics, one can obtain the phase of the wave function straightforwardly from this total-derivative term, together with the corresponding time-independent Hamiltonian. We solve analytically and algebraically the general time-dependent harmonic oscillator driven by a time-dependent inverse cubic force as an example.

Quantum theory of a non-Hermitian time-dependent forced harmonic oscillator having 𝒫𝒯 symmetry

I. A. Pedrosa, B. F. Ramos, K. Bakke +1 more

We discuss the quantum theory of an harmonic oscillator with time-dependent mass and frequency submitted to action of a complex time-dependent linear potential with [Formula: see text] symmetry. Combining the Lewis and Riesenfeld approach to time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonians having [Formula: see text] symmetry and linear invariants, we solve the time-dependent Schrödinger equation for this problem and use the corresponding quantum states to construct a Gaussian wave packet solution. We show that the shape of this wave packet does not depend on the driving force. Afterwards, using this wave packet state, we calculate the expectation values of the position and momentum, their fluctuations and the associated uncertainty product. We find that these expectation values are complex numbers and as a consequence the position and momentum operators are not physical observables and the uncertainty product is physically unacceptable.

The time-dependent forced anisotropic oscillator in noncommutative phase space

Mai-Lin Liang, Qian Chen

Wave functions of the time-dependent forced anisotropic harmonic oscillator in noncommutative phase space are derived using the linear transformation and unitary transformation methods. The energy spectrum is given for the stationary system. Further, quantum fluctuations and the squeezing effect are investigated. It is found that the anisotropic property of the harmonic oscillator in noncommutative space has the squeezing effect.

The time-dependent quantum harmonic oscillator: a pedagogical approach via the Lewis–Riesenfeld dynamical invariant method

Stanley Santiago Coelho, Lucas Queiroz, Danilo T. Alves

Abstract In quantum mechanics courses, students often solve the Schrödinger equation for the harmonic oscillator with time-independent parameters. However, time-dependent quantum harmonic oscillators are relevant in modeling several problems as, for instance, the description of quantum motion of particles in traps, shortcuts to adiabaticity, generation of squeezed states, as well as quantum scalar fields evolving in expanding universes. In the present paper, we discuss, with a pedagogical approach, the quantum harmonic oscillator with time-dependent frequency via the Lewis–Riesenfeld dynamical invariant method, revisiting the main steps to obtain the wave function associated with this model, and briefly discussing the relation between this oscillator and the generation of squeezed states. As examples of didactic applications of time-dependent harmonic oscillators and the Lewis–Riesenfeld method in quantum mechanics courses, we solve the following problems: the calculation of the transition probability associated with a harmonic oscillator which undergoes jumps in its frequency, and the analysis of the dynamics of a quantum particle in a Paul trap.

Exact wave functions of a harmonic oscillator with time-dependent mass and frequency

I. A. Pedrosa

We use the Lewis and Riesenfeld invariant method [J. Math. Phys. 10, 1458 (1969)] to obtain the exact Schr\"odinger wave functions for a harmonic oscillator with time-dependent mass and frequency. Exact coherent states for such system are also constructed.
