Strong coupling and dressed states of an interface island in a pillar semiconductor microcavity

Giovanna Panzarini, Elisa Molinari

We present a theoretical scheme to investigate the coupled states of a zero-dimensional semiconductor structure and the confined modes of a pillar microcavity, taking into account interacting exciton states and both coherent and incoherent dynamical processes. For quantum-well monolayer fluctuations we find that the frequency of the cavity modes can be tuned in such a way that both exciton and biexciton states are in the strong coupling regime. The calculated luminescence spectra are interpreted in terms of transitions between the dressed states of the composite radiation-matter system.

Propagation effects in semiconductor multiple quantum well structures

T. Stroucken, Andreas Knorr, S. W. Koch +2 more

The dynamics of radiatively coupled quantum well excitons is investigated. It is shown that collective effects determine the optical response of semiconductor multiple quantum well stacks. In multiple quantum well Bragg structures, collective phenomena manifest themselves as a superradiant decay of coherent electronic excitations. In anti-Bragg structures, the optical coupling induces an interwell energy transport and a splitting of the excitonic resonance.

Coherent coupling in inhomogeneously broadened exciton ensembles

E. Finger, S. Kraft, A. Euteneuer +6 more

Summary form only given. Inhomogeneous broadening is the most obvious consequence of disorder, and an inhomogeneously broadened exciton line might be considered as a superposition of homogeneously broadened subensembles of excitons. However, a possible coherent coupling in inhomogeneously broadened exciton ensemble structures leads to effects like disorder induced dephasing. We study the excitonic structure of various semiconductor quantum wells with different types and strengths of disorder by means of coherent excitation spectroscopy.
