We briefly review current research on strongly interacting ultracold atomic polarized Fermi gases. In three dimensions the ground state of such systems is under strong debate. To gain some insights we investigate a system of one-dimensional strongly interacting polarized Fermi gases. In free space this is an integrable system, and therefore an exact phase diagram can be obtained. We show that an inhomogeneous superfluid state is most widespread in the phase diagram. We consider also the trapped case with an external harmonic trap, where two novel phase separation phases are found using the local density approximation.
We investigate ground-state properties of interacting two-component Bose gases in a hard-wall trap using both the Bethe ansatz and exact numerical diagonalization method. For equal intra-atomic and interatomic interaction, the system is exactly solvable. Thus the exact ground-state wave-function and density distributions for the whole interacting regime can be obtained from the Bethe ansatz solutions. Since the ground state is a degenerate state with total spin
S=N/2, the total density distributions are the same for each degenerate state. The total density distribution evolves from a Gauss-like Bose distribution to a Fermi-like one as the repulsive interaction increases. The distribution of each component is ${N}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}/N$ of the total density distribution. This is approximately true even in the experimental situation. In addition the numerical results show that with the increase in interspecies interaction the distributions of two Tonks-Girardeau gases exhibit composite-fermionization crossover with each component developing
N peaks in the strongly interacting regime.
Abstract We investigate the ground state properties of Fermi gases in a planar array of one-dimensional potential tubes with spin–orbit coupling where the motion of atoms is free in the x ˆ -direction and the tunneling between nearest tubes in the y ˆ -direction is permitted. By using the mean-field method, the phase diagrams of the system at the dimensional crossover from quasi-one dimension to quasi-two dimensions is obtained. We find the existence of the topological state and Majorana mode in the weak tunneling case, and a rich phase diagram including two kinds of nodal superfluid phase and gapped superfluid phase, in the opposite case. The results show that topological pairing is favored in quasi-one dimension while nodal pairing state is favored in quasi-two dimensions.
