Abstract

In this paper we study the quantum interference effects of a quasi-Λ-type four-level atom system interacting with two light fields. When the probe field is weak, our calculations show that along with the change of Rabi frequencies of the driving field, the system appears to be hole burning in the dispersion curve, and two big electromagnetic induced transparency windows with approximately the same width are demonstrated. In addition, the evolution of dispersion with the Rabi phase of probe field shows optical bistability.

Multiple electromagnetically induced transparency in a quasi-Λ type four-level atomic system

Xiangwei Wang, Xiangyang Zhang

Using density matrix eqution, the absorption and dispersion properties of a A-type four-level system driven by coherent fields are investigated. The result obtained by means of numerical method indicates that by adjusting the intensity of Rabi frequencies of the coherent field in the steady state, three, double or single electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) can appear explicitly in this system. And the explanations of these phenomena are given by using the dressed states. In the three EIT, the location of transparent windows can be manipulated by controlling the detuning of the driving field. What's more, it is also found that the medium shows a large refractive index at each transparency window, and the group velocity of the probe laser can be enhanced.

The EIT Effects and Optical Switch of Tripod-type Four-level Atom System

Jun Zheng

The quantum effects of a tripod-type four-level atom system interacting with three light fileds are studied.Under certain conditions, our calculations show that along with the change of Rabi frequencies of the driving field, the curve of dispersion changes from abnormal chromatic dispersion to normal chromatic dispersion, thus the optical switching effect has appeared. When the parameter is certain, there is a phenomenon of electromagnetic induction transparency in resonance near resonance case.

Electromagnetically induced absorption and transparency in a closed lambda-shaped four-level system

Xiaoli Li, Lianshui Zhang, Baozhu Yang +1 more

A quasi-lambda four-level system shows both electromagnetically induced absorption (EIA) and electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). In addition to an optical coupling field and a probing field, there is a radio field which interacts with two excited state hyperfine levels of the quasi-lambda four-level system consisting of two excited state hyperfine levels and two ground state hyperfine levels. If a driving field which interacts with two ground state hyperfine levels is introduced, the quasi-lambda four-level system is modified to a closed-lambda four-level system. The behaviors of the driving field and radio field are studied in this paper and it is seen that the occurence of EIA or EIT and the whole probing properties are controlled by the Rabi frequencies of both driving field and radio field.

Absorption and dispersion in probe laser in the four-level Y-type atom system

Liying Zhang, Zhengdong Liu, 南昌大学近代物理研究所,南昌 330047

In this paper we have calculated the absorption and dispersion of the probe laser in the four_level Y_type atom system at low light levels and found that if the external light fields are changed, the system would exhibit an electromagnetically induced transparency effect. At the same time,we found that the system could also exhibit enhancement accompanied with a big negative refractive index, and if the light field phase is changed, the absorption and dispersion of the probe laser are also changed.

A study of optical properties of a four-level atomic system via vacuum-induced coherence effects

Jun Chen, Liu Zheng-Dong, Zheng Jun +2 more

This paper studies the effects of vacuum-induced coherence (VIC) in a four-level atomic system. The effects of VIC lead to the coherent hole burnings exhibited in the system at some certain points of the Rabi frequency. This is also the reason for the enhancement of the coherent population trapping. In addition, optical bistability occurs in the evolution curves of absorption versus the phase of Rabi frequencies.
