Abstract

In this paper, we propose an improved practical encryption and fault-tolerance decryption method using a non-negative value key and random function obtained with a white noise by using iterative phase wrapping method. A phase wrapping operating key, which is generated by the product of arbitrary random phase images and an original phase image, is zero-padded and Fourier transformed. Fourier operating key is then obtained by taking the real-valued data from this Fourier transformed image. Also the random phase wrapping operating key is made from these arbitrary random phase images and the same iterative phase wrapping method. We obtain a Fourier random operating key through the same method in the encryption process. For practical transmission of encryption and decryption keys via Internet, these keys should be intensity maps with non-negative values. The encryption key and the decryption key to meet this requirement are generated by the addition of the absolute of its minimum value to each of Fourier keys, respectively. The decryption based on 2-f setup with spatial filter is simply performed by the inverse Fourier transform of the multiplication between the encryption key and the decryption key and also can be used as a current spatial light modulator technology by phase encoding of the non-negative values. Computer simulations show the validity of the encryption method and the robust decryption system in the proposed technique.

Optical encryption system using visual cryptography and virtual phase images

We propose an encryption method using visual cryptography and virtual phase images. In the encryption process, the original image is shared by virtual images and the decryption key image. We multiply the virtual phase images with each complex image, which has the constant value of its sum after performing the phase modulation of the virtual images and the decryption key. The encryption cards are made by Fourier transforming the multiplied images. It is possible to protect information about the original image because the cards do not have any information from the original image. To reconstruct the original image, all the encryption cards are placed on each path of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer and then the lights passing through them are summed. Since the summed image is inverse Fourier transformed by a Fourier lens, the phase image is multiplied with the decryption key and the output image is obtained in the form of intensity on the CCD plane. Computer simulations show a good performance of the pro-posed optical security system.

Optical Encryption using a Random Phase Image and Shift Position in Joint Transform Correlation Plane

Most optical security systems use a 4-f correlator, Mach-Zehnder interferometer, or a joint transform correlator(JTC). Of them, the JTC does not require an accurate optical alignment and has a good potential for real-time processing. In this paper, we propose an image encryption system using a position shift property of the JTC in the Fourier domain and a random phase image. Our encryption system uses two keys: one key is a random phase mask and the other key is a position shift factor. By using two keys, the proposed method can increase the security level of the encryption system. An encrypted image is produced by the Fourier transform for the multiplication image, which resulted from adding position shift functions to an original image, with a random phase mask. The random phase mask and position shift value are used as keys in decryption, simultaneously. For the decryption, both the encrypted image and the key image should be correctly located on the JTC. If the incorrect position shift value or the incorrect key image is used in decryption, the original information can not be obtained. To demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed system, computer simulation is performed. By analyzing the simulation results in the case of blocking of the encrypted image and affecting of the phase noise, we confirmed that the proposed method has a good tolerance to data loss. These results show that our system is very useful for the optical certification system.

Optical security system using multi-phase separation and phase-wrapping method

Shin Chang Mok, Kim Soo Joong, Seo Dong Hoan

In this paper, we proposed an optical security system based on a gray-image exclusive-OR encryption using multi-phase separation and phase-wrapping method. For encryption, a gray image is sliced into binary images, which have the same pixel value, and these images are encrypted by modified XOR rules with binary random images. The XORed images and the binary images respectively combined and converted into full phase images, called an encrypted image and a key image. For decryption, when the encrypted image and key image are used as inputs on optical elements, Practically due to limited controllability of phase range in optical elements, the original gray image cannot be efficiently reconstructed by these optical elements. Therefore, by decreasing the phase ranges of the encrypted image and key image using a phase-wrapping method and separating these images into low-level phase images using multi-phase separation, the gray image can be reconstructed by optical elements which have limited control range. The decrytion process is simply implemented by interfering a multiplication result of encrypted image and key image with reference light. The validity of proposed scheme is verified and the effects, which are caused by phase limitation in decryption process, is analyzed by using computer simulations.

Phase-only optical encryption based on the zeroth-order phase-contrast technique

José Carlos Pizolato, Luiz G. Neto

A phase-only encryption/decryption scheme with the readout based on the zeroth-order phase-contrast technique (ZOPCT), without the use of a phase-changing plate on the Fourier plane of an optical system based on the 4f optical correlator, is proposed. The encryption of a gray-level image is achieved by multiplying the phase distribution obtained directly from the gray-level image by a random phase distribution. The robustness of the encoding is assured by the nonlinearity intrinsic to the proposed phase-contrast method and the random phase distribution used in the encryption process. The experimental system has been implemented with liquid-crystal spatial modulators to generate phase-encrypted masks and a decrypting key. The advantage of this method is the easy scheme to recover the gray-level information from the decrypted phase-only mask applying the ZOPCT. An analysis of this decryption method was performed against brute force attacks.

Double random fractional Fourier domain encoding for optical security

Unnikrishnan Gopinathan, Kehar Singh

We propose a new optical encryption technique using the fractional Fourier transform. In this method, the data are encrypted to a stationary white noise by two statistically independent random phase masks in fractional Fourier domains. To decrypt the data correctly, one needs to specify the fractional domains in which the input plane, encryption plane, and output planes exist, in addition to the key used for encryption. The use of an anamorphic fractional Fourier transform for the encryption of two-dimensional data is also discussed. We suggest an optical implementation of the proposed idea. Results of a numerical simulation to analyze the performance of the proposed method are presented.
