Abstract

A quantum-statistical model for a three-level cascade atom interacting with radiation fields initially in coherent states is presented. By means of numerical summation and saddle-point approximation, the expectation values of the atomic-level operators and the photon numbers are obtained and discussed, which reveals the phenomena such -as the twophoton transitions and the new collapse and revival.

THE QUANTUM STATISTICAL PROPERTIES OF THE JAYNES-CUMMINGS MODEL

GU QIAO, 西北大学物理系

We derive a set of equations characterizing the quantum statistical properties of Jaynes-Cummings model, which may be used to describe overall the dynamical and statistical aspects in the interaction between a two-level atom and a single mode of the radiation field. Both interactions of a two-level atom with a vacuum field and a excited atom with a coherent field, as examples, are discussed in detail. Finally, the practicality of the above-mentionedi theoretical studies is demonstrated.

Quantum properties of a three-level atom interacting with two radiation fields

Xiao-shen Li, Yue-nan Peng

The quantum-statistical model for a three-level atom interacting with two radiation fields is studied. The mean atomic occupations and photon numbers are obtained under different initial conditions of one coherent field and one chaotic field or both chaotic or coherent fields, with the atom in upper or lower states. Through numerical summation, it is shown that the effects of coherent sources and chaotic sources are different even for low intensities. Meanwhile the effects of detuning on this interaction are discussed.

Statistical Evolution of the Mean Photon Number in the Interaction of a Cascad Three-level Atomwith Strong Coherent Field of Initial State

Ying Chen

In this paper, statistical evolution of the mean photon number in the interaction of a cascade three-level atom with strong coherent field of initial state are studied by numerical calculation. The results show that the statistical evolution of the mean photon number appear Rabi-type quantum collapse and revival properties; with the increasing of the value of n,the nonlinear coupling between the field and the atom is getting stronger and stronger ,and the phenomenon of revival shrink will arise repeatedly.

PHOTON STATISTICS AND QUANTUM FLUCTUATIONS IN TWO-PHOTON JAYNES-CUMMINGS MODEL

Shi-Yao Zhu, Kunchi Peng

Single-photon J-C model (or two-level J-C model) composed of a two-level atom and single-mode field has been studied for many years. Recently, this model was expanded into two–photon J–C model (or three-level J–C model) composed of a three-level atom and single-mode field, which has the potential to produce antibunched field[1] and even squeezed field. A main property of the J-C model is the collapse and revival phenomenon, which has experimentally in single-photon J-C model been proved[2] last year. In the collapse period, average photon number and atomic populations keep constant, as if no interaction between the atom and field exists. We would like to ask if other properties of the field change little in the collapse period and there is really no interaction.

QUASIPROBABILITY DISTRIBUTIONS FOR THE THREE-LEVEL JAYNES-CUMMINGS MODEL

Nguyen Dinh Huyen, Ho Trung Dung

The Q-function and Wigner function for a three-level system coupled to a one-mode coherent field under two-photon resonance are treated for various initial atomic states. It is shown that the dynamical behavior of the quasiprobability distributions reflects the collapses and revivals in the time histories of the Rabi oscillations in a very interesting way. The structured quasiprobabilities are reviewed in the light of the semiclassical eigenstates.

Field statistics in some generalized Jaynes-Cummings models

Surendra Singh

Photon statistics in some fully quantized models of the interaction of a two-level atom with a single-mode radiation field have been studied using the operator equations of motion. Expressions for the photon number distribution and the mean photon number are presented for various initial conditions. It is found that the mean photon number may show decays and revivals of coherence similar to those of the atomic inversion in the coherent-state Jaynes-Cummings model. Application of these models to the study of multiphoton laser, absorption, and emission processes is also discussed.
